Ah, things are really starting to hit the fan for poor Julie!  Does she believe that ring is her responsibility?  After seeing what happened to her mother…maybe so!  And now a total stranger has it!  A stranger whose job it is to help those in need!

…but will she be more harm than good?

I've very happy that you're enjoying this reposting Kate  ;D  Your support back in the days of old is one of the things that helped keep me motivated enough to finish The Necklace in the first place.  And yea, Julies sense of responsibility and guilt is a driving force in the story (but you already knew that didn't you?  😛 )
