I didn't know Adrulla Blanchette was British Alex – her name seems very American. 😮
I have the Jo Anna Thomas video that Andrulla works out with her in, trust me, she's British. 😉 man she can push some weight around! one of my favorite bodybuilding mag covers of all time has her on it. the cover has a guy on it who is pretty muscular and is curling 40 LBS. with Andrulla standing beside him with her arm right next to his curling 60 LBS. The guy is staring over at Andrulla's arm in shock because it looks bigger than his. That cover rocks. to bad the article for the cover is offensively called "women bodybuilders, freaks or not" 🙁 oh well at least the picture was sexy.

If I'd have been able to survive being born during the 19th Century (which is doubtful) I'd have been labelled a freak because of my disability. One era's freak is another era's normal person.

Off the top of my head I can think of three Brits of Buffedness, FBBrs, of course 😉
Joanne Lee (talk about Thundra-buffed in her prime, but the blonde version.)

August 6, 2007 at 7:47 pm #56855saculParticipanti quite agree with u, and don't forget as to why there aren't that much nightlife places in big cities because our country is very socially conservative, a famous example is a video of how japanese people make fun of themselves at how they play table tennis, we don't like to make fun of ourselves or do anything against "tradtional values"
August 6, 2007 at 9:50 pm #56856baditude41ParticipantI have to agree with St. on this. I'm in the US and both FBB and Womens' Athletics (in a whole) are almost always looked down on. For instance, I hate watching the NBA (because of the "Show-Boating" and the hype). However, I like watching the WNBA, because it's more traditional…more realistic without the whole "Super-Player" thing.
Another thing I've noticed is that National Geographic Channel has a series entitled "Taboo" about different cultures and lifestyles people consider strange or weird. Unfortunately (if I'm not mistaken) there is an episode dealing with Female Bodybuilding). I hope that helps somewhat. The degree of it just that…rare, tabooed thing. "Tabooed"…I don't know if it's a word, but I think I'll try using it more often.

My complaint is that, apart from the "Muscle Worship" programme earlier this year, the concept of a muscular woman (not just FBBing) isn't even mentioned here, even in a negative way. It's as if it doesn't exist. >:(
August 7, 2007 at 7:44 pm #56858fbbsare2hotParticipantI agree. There's no femuscle on TV or anywhere in the media. And even in gyms you won't find a female bodybuilder, but there are some hot fitness gals. I'm sure if there was just one female bodybuilder or even figure competitor walking down the street, there would be controversy. It's really not accepted as much as in America, although I agree the problem still exists there.
August 8, 2007 at 1:34 am #56859AlexGKeymasterI don't think Joanne Mccartney is british (could be wrong).
To quote the WPW/RM site: "For many years during the mid-late 80's, Joanne McCartney was one of the best bodybuilders on the scene, and she still might be known for having what many consider to be the best calves ever. She was from England, and retained her British accent, but lived in Florida during her bodybuilding career."
But Gayle Moher is.
Mmmm, Gayle Moher . . .
