Heya, folks! Did we start a new thread regarding the first issue of Peter David's run on She-Hulk? I know we did one long ago when it was first announced but thought maybe we should start a new one for our first impressions of his run.

I love the art; I think it's the best She-Hulk art the book's had in quite some time. David's writing is different from Slott's and I'm glad they all acknowledge that. It's like meeting a friend you haven't seen in a few years. You recognize them but you know they've changed a lot.

If I had one quibble with the book, why on earth did they name the letters page SHE-MAIL???? There wasn't anything wrong with the old letters page aside from no one wrote letters in :(.

Too many changes happened and too many wierd things also happened for me to carry on from Slott's ending. I'll patiently wait to see what David is doing, but I didn't buy this issue.

As a general storylines go, thus far, I think its too early to say.

However, what I did notice the most, was, for the first time ever, Jen had an Amazonian persona about herself.  Sort of reminded me, in a general way, of Thundra and her warrioress ruthless attitude of: never mind the consequences, I'm take this piece of trash down and out.

I'll wait a few issues before passing judgement.

I'm liking it so far. While not super serious it hasn't been silly either. I like what's been seen of She-Hulks persona and the art is a big step up (although I still wish it was Pelletier). I even mentioned she could be a little thicker, more muscular on Shawn Moll's blog andd he said he's still gettin' a handle on her.

In terms of art? Orders of magnitude better, quite frankly Bobillo and Burchett were surpassed every day by dozens of people on DA with no formal training… obviously doodling in your spare times isn't the same as putting together 30ish pages of comic a month but please, those guys would have had to work their way up to being 2nd rate hacks. I sincerely hope Marvel doesn't punish She-Hulk with such horrible artists again because even if you didn't like the direction Slott took the book, he at least had finesse… Bobillo I could concede had a style that complimented Dan's offbeat and quirky style but DAYUM, that man made She-Hulk look like She-Jello and did unspeakably horrible things to pretty much every guest start…

So, perhaps some of my positive response to this issue is that I can look at a bright green, toned, hot and sexy She-Hulk for a change. Or the fact that people can be at an angle without looking rubbish. Yes, I'd be lying if I said the big improvement in the art didn't count so way toward gaining my favour. As I'd be lying if I said I didn't favour the new direction. I know some people loved the law firm, some hated it… I was more "meh" but while I'll give Dan kudos for getting She-Hulk coverage and making the book his own, he admitted that he never wanted the book to be a hit more a quirky cult classic… which is not an attitude that was ever compatible with me.

So, while it's too early to make any meaningful comment on PAD's writing yet, I have to say that it's far more appealing to me than about 90% of Dan's run… but then, probably just about all of the Savage and Sensational run… but this just feels like what She-Hulk should be about… little story, little action, good art, good writing… no joking about obscure comic stuff.

Its different. Very…very different. I like it. Had me in shock half way through…but with how its going so far…maybe hell bring her back to greatness. As for the art, eons better than Bobillo… -_-
