thats good news for the fbbs
…… I’m not sure about that….. pretty sure in some small way everybody’s losing here, not just pirates
why should i lose something if thieves go to jail ?
imo copyright is important…its a crime to steal the work of other people…its the same crime as stealing your car….January 21, 2012 at 8:50 am #105836unkn0wnxParticipantClearly government overeach. No one bother to explain why singling out Megaupload; seems like making an example. They didn’t even bother with passing SOPA and PIPA. Its really dangerous when government can pick and choose what and how to enforce their laws before its even passed. Piracy is just an excuse.

I’m… I’m sorry but there is, wrong yes but downloading music or one JANA’s vids doesn’t get you 20 in prison. Well… that is if the music industry doesn’t have their way and if they do downloading music will get you the death penalty.
Nah dude I think we did lose something here, even the FBB’s. Their’s a finer picture here that has more to do with file sharing sites in general than piracy. Me thinks Rapidsare and Mediafire will probably get torched next.

if i catch somebody stealing from jana personally he will get the death penalty also…
and why do you think it should be legal to download music ?
its their work, why shouldnt i pay to buy to cd or the download ?January 21, 2012 at 9:55 am #105840BlackKusanagiParticipantSome people I know do download some things illegally to try out before they actually do go purchase said items, but what congress is doing is what they’ve always done.
Showing that with a flick of a wrist, they can change how everything is done.

no, there is no difference…
i dont understand why people think only because they are more anonym and its the internet stealing is ok…maybe because its the same people who would steal cars also, but dont have the balls to do so…but in internet they stealJanuary 21, 2012 at 12:07 pm #105843TC2ParticipantJust read an article on MSN that stated why the US acted on megaupload. They had servers in the USA, so it allowed the government to act on their site.
I don’t know what other sites also have U.S. servers on them, but either way the Virginia servers is what got mega cuffed.

Regarding the government “singling out” megaupload and selectively enforcing the law: it takes a lot of people a lot of time to build and prosecute a criminal case, especially a big one requiring the participation of multiple governments. Each government has limited resources. The government cannot afford to enforce the law against everyone, but it should still enforce the law to the extent that it can, and it should enforce it with actions that provide the most deterrence against future crimes.
Regarding the difference between stealing a car and “stealing” a song: if I steal your car, you can’t use your car or give it or sell it to anyone else. If I infringe your copyright, you can still listen to your song and give it or sell it to others. (I’m not saying copyright infringement is ok. I’m just saying that it’s clearly different than stealing.)
