ParticipantYou should do a Google search for "codecs pack", download and install
them — they're free, and it should be an all-in-one pack that will let
you play anything. Also, a good free non-Microsoft player can be found

ParticipantI've been using the free DivX player (there's also a pay version, which I have not tried) that works well for me.

TC2ParticipantMy friend Anterion who is a programming whiz recommend FFDSHOW which allows you to play virtually ALL video files except for those that require DVDs. All of them become compatible with Windows Media Player.

ParticipantOk so I downloaded DivX Player 2.0 Alpha. But everytime I try to open it I get a error message that says "A require .DLL file, WS2_32.DLL, was not found." What dose that mean? and how can I fix it?

GuestInstall Linux, run VLC.
Or use the Windows VLC version. (Using Linux myself, though 🙂 )

VLC and FFDSHOW share large parts of the same routines. VLC is just more convinient to install.
Try VLC first. If you don't like how the player looks, google for the latest FFDSHOW package install
it and use whatever Windows player you like. Windows Media Player, Coreplayer, Zoom Player, etc..March 3, 2006 at 10:16 pm #23466flashHEART.EXE
ParticipantWinamp, muchacho. Lots of nice features too, like easily being able to customize a video playlist. I like it a lot better than DivX and the like because of the versatility and ease of use.
But that is just my two cents.

ParticipantOn http://filesharingtalk.com/ they have some excellent guides – check out http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/t89795.html to get info (very short and to the point) about just about anything to do with watching media files . My own player of choice is Media Player Classic, which can handle just about anything.
