Well, it would be intuitive to think that those who violently opposed the media would dislike the idea of the icon they wanted to supress plastered around the internet.
February 19, 2006 at 11:35 pm #21928AtariboyParticipantI've decided to not posting anything until this thing about the 12 pictures in a Danish newspaper gets resolved.
It's not a strike or anything like that, but because it's really killing my mood to drew. I get to hear about it day in and out, as soon as I get up from bed and til I go to sleep.
I have to hear about something I haven't seen? From what I've figured out, only 4 people are to blame; The director of the news paper and the 3 artist that made the more offensive pictures.
Anyways, I have a livejournal that can be commented about it if it's not okay to talk about it here. It's not to get a rise out of people, it's just something that filling alot of my life at the moment. A bit too much, I think.Seem to me its all notthing but a way to use this stupit cartoon as a way to start up hatting. Let be real these people already wanted to blame long before this cartoon came to be and remeber it came out in Setember of last year and only now wahted to fight about that? What about all thouse cartoon already made fun of? Even South Park made fun of Both Bin laden and his god Mohammed in 2001! So dont get this all upsetting to you Red. Cuase in the online world these is no way in Heck that anyone can stop from some one making fun and other believes. Cuase even if I dont like other people making fun of what ever there believe I dont want to live in a world where some group of radicals dont like what they see. 😡

After there was an initial protest by the Danish muslim community there was a reconciliation and things died down there. Then, a group of extremist Danish imams who were disappointed that it hadn't been a springboard for extremism went to the International Muslim Council (forgive me if I've misremembered the name of the body) and showed these drawings to them.
That would have been bad enough, but they ALSO took along a bunch of other drawings that were EVEN WORSE. These included drawings of the prophet Mohammed with the head of a pig, the prophet Mohammed shagging animals and the prophet Mohammed as a paedophile. I'm not sure who drew these pictures or if they made them themselves to stir things up, but they were NEVER printed in the Danish press, and I'm sure cartoons that went THAT far would have caused the Danish government to put the newspaper editors in prison as they obviously went a lot further than pictures of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, THAT seems to be the reason for these cartoons sparking riots and burning down embassies etc. which is a bit more understandable if Muslims in the Middle East believed that cartoons of their holy leader as a paedophile were being printed (and reprinted) in European newspapers and then being defended as a freedom of speech issue. You wouldn't ever have cartoons of Jesus as a paedophile in newspapers even though people make fun of Christianity all the time (and even with all the stories of those Catholic priests abusing children).
So it seems to be a combination of extremist imams in Denmark taking things to the next level after failing to stir things up in Denmark and a misrepresentation of things to Muslims in the Middle East where there were also extremist factions who saw this as an opportunity to vent widespread public opinion through violence.
P.S. Nevertheless, Denmark is the only country in the world where there is an actual Nazi party that is actually allowed to exist and take part in elections etc. so who (if anyone) has got it right?

A lot of shops closed up early along that street, but their sales were the only casualties, thankfully. Since then, I hadn't seen any more news aside from these:

http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1630318I'd made a minor boo-boo of talking with an atheistic internet buddy on IM about it, and he said, and I cut-and-paste:
"first thing to do though, is remove religion from politics completely"
