ParticipantOur computer has been shut down by Windows Complete, a virus that is a new version of Windows Protector, the virus that shut down our computer the first time, the time when we replaced our monitor. Consequently, we have not been able to access the Internet at home for a little over a week.

ParticipantIf you have a backup of Windows Complete then uninstall it and then immediately install AVG Free Antivirus. Update the database and run a complete AVG scan as soon as you install it. Then install Malwarebytes which is a free malicious software scanner. Update the database and run a complete scan with that as soon as you install it. Finally, you can install Spybot Search & Destroy which is another free malicious software scanner. Also install “Tea Timer” which is an install option that monitors all future installs. Update the database and run a complete scan with Spybot as soon as you install it.
All three of these programs have different strengths and will look for different things. Between the three, they should catch most anything you might have.
Get all 3 downloads from a friend’s computer or work. Save the installs to a USB Zip drive. Do not plug in any zip drive that has been in your infected computer or you could spread the infection to other computers. If that means spending $10 to buy a new zip drive, then do so.
If these steps do not fix the problem, you may need to bring your computer to a local PC Repair shop capable of diagnosing and removing infections at a more advanced level. Be certain that they do not charge you for services unless they successfully remove the infection(s). Get that in writing too. There’s no sense paying good money for an unresolved problem.

ParticipantNo, Windows Complete is from the Net and poses as an advertisement for a new Windows virus removal program. Once you agree to buy the program, and we have never done this, it apparently shuts down your computer once you have downloaded your personal information anyway. If you don’t agree to buy the program it (or, at least, its immediate predecessor Windows Protector) prevents you from accessing any of the files or programs on your database, while making it appear that it is loaded with viruses to make you buy the program.
As for our computer, well, we have now bought a new one after a little over a month with the crashed and useless one. It comes with its own keyboard and mouse, and we will be using the same screen we used for the older computer, which was a Dell.

ParticipantGlad you are up and going again. Sorry that I misunderstood what you meant. The 3 programs I suggested are still worth installing.

ParticipantI neglected to tell everyone here at Amaz0ns to spread the word about the Windows Complete virus, so I would appreciate it if you would now do so.
