Been reading a bit up on it…mainly the debates going on the RxMuscle forums. Honestly, I do think when this division gets moving, the FBB division, will be officially dead.
I mean they may be saying its not in danger, but everyone saw this coming.
October 26, 2010 at 1:48 pm #96472AlexGKeymasterYeah, I’ve been keeping tabs on the subject, too, over there @ RX.
Only question is, are they serious about it, or is it going be just a lot of noise that in the end is not going to be inforced (i.e. remember the 20% less mass rule that they tried to push a few yrs back?) cuz the women that are FBBrs won’t go to go along w/ it.

But one of the reasons I don’t want to express any strong opinions is that I know hardly anything about bodybuilding. I’ve watched one show and I didn’t understand a bit of it.
October 26, 2010 at 7:08 pm #96479DannyParticipanthell man, never thought FBB could be in danger… makes me sad I didn’t catch today’s competition 🙁
October 27, 2010 at 12:51 pm #96498AlexGKeymasterWell, if you have any questions (or just want to lurk and read the thread for info) here’s the thread @ RX Muscle forums to be asking them of the IFBB representive.

Choice,…the problem here is choice.
Weider brothers found out a long time ago that Rachel McLish&Cory Everson will never make them as much scratch as Arnold or Lou.
Thus FBBers get shafted everytime IFBB has time on their hands
Women’s bodybuilding lifestyle is the sum of unbalanced equality interfering with plans of the Mainstream.Yaz for example is an anomaly, which despite IFBB’s efforts has been unable to eliminate from what is harmony of muscle industry. While it remains a burden on her,it is not unexpected&thus not beyond a measure of control, which has led us here.
The higher ups just wanna control women bodybuildersOctober 31, 2010 at 9:58 am #96581ReasonParticipantActually, I’ve always thought the gap between Pro Figure and Pro Bodybuilding was too big, so I think the new division is a good idea. I think this gap is why a lot of fan favourites end up retiring from the sport once they turn Pro. It seems stupid that they are forced to choose between no longer working out with weights to make the transition to Figure or going to the extreme to achieve the mass and hardness currently required to compete in Pro Bodybuilding, especially since a lot of us think they pretty much look perfect the way they are!
Don’t get me wrong, I love hard-core female bodybuilding (apart from the involvement of drugs), and I can’t see it ever going away, no matter how much the IFBB want it to. After all, it’s survived this long, and I just think there will always be an audience to watch women who are dedicated to realising the full potential of their physiques and compete without limitation. I know it will never have mainstream appeal and and a huge number of competitors, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Certainly for me, the fact that very few women are able to naturally add on a lot of muscle is part of the thrill of the sport.
So I really hope this new division takes off and becomes the premier female division, while still allowing room for Figure/Fitness and Bodybuilding at either side. but I know it will never have mainstream appeal. Also, I know that it still takes a lot of effort to compete in Figure, but IMO the competitions are just so damn boring! It’ll be great to see these athletes have a chance to do an expressive routine instead of just smiling and doing endless quarter-turns! It would also help differentiate between the competitors, so it’s not just a “hotness” contest.
Anyway, if you’re worried that this will be the end of female bodybuilding as it currently stands, I guess now’s the time to get out and see a show, so we can prove the powers that be that it has not “already phased itself out”!
