Thanks, Mass, for the info but, I think I'll pass. I was already "raped" by Joyce Chin to the tune of $150. Suddenly the $100 Adam Hughes charges seems affordable.

I actually remember seeing a message board where CC caught lots of heat about his awesome brawny depiction of WW. I don't think he's been too keen on DC for a while.

    Actually, ChrisCross is a male.

An almost seven foot tall Black male at that!

Attitudes like yours are why comic artists have such contempt for fans. I'm sure you have no problem cashing your paycheck.

What would be a fair price? $20 bucks?

I would've been willing to pay $100-that's what I paid for an Adam Hughes pin-up, and Joyce Chin on her best day isn't Adam Hughes. The mistake I made was agreeing to the conditions set out by her rep/agent. I asked what she charges for a pin-up. He replied it depends on what I want. I described what I wanted and e-mailed reference. He told me she would do pin-up, send me a small image of it, then tell me how much. If I wasn't satisfied, I was under no obligation to buy. Sounded like a fair deal until he hit me with the price. While I was under no obligation, I felt guilty about turning it down, and I didn't want word to get out that I wasn't  someone worth dealing with so, I paid. Recounting the story here will probably come back to bite me in the ass somehow but, figured I'd explain my experience.

I've had some good luck and some bad luck with commissions. BUT I will be a pain in the ass about it if the artist lets me. I'm particular and I will show samples before I submit or bid to allow the artist to back off.

I don't see how it would, unless your real name is Delmo, and Chin is stalking you on-line. The honesty in your explanation is light years ahead of "Chin raped me." Although I still don't understand how "buy or don't buy" was fair until you found out the price–that doesn't make sense! You say you weren't obligated to buy, but then the "invoice" obligated you? Sounds more like you sexually assaulted yourself on this one than anything else, trying to save face or cover your ass for the next commission.

    Let go of guilt, man!

Why did you really inquire about Joyce Chin doing a drawing for you? I presume you didn't think she was enough of a professional to charge a pro rate; that you were doing her a favor somehow, and that you were going to get something cheaply.

My real name is Delmo, and from your response Mean must surely be yours.

I inquired about Joyce Chin because I liked her style and thought she would be perfect for what I had in mind. Using what Adam Hughes charges for a pin-up as a yardstick, I figured the most expensive it might be was $100.

I'm doing no one any favors, whether its inquiring for commission prices or posting/replying to this board.
