Because sometimes the people who look the role don't have the talent to pull it off.  If someone can visualize the person as a character just by changing a few things, they'll go with the blonde over one who fits closer to the role.

    Here's a good example:

I auditioned two actresses for an independent project I'm working on.  (Not my animation) and I met with an actress who would more closely fit the "look" than the other actress.

The one who closely fit the look didn't give off that kind of spark, she didn't make me believe she could be the character.  Her acting was solid but it just didn't feel like she was the one I was looking for.  Where as the other girl who doesn't look like the character at all gave me the sense of that magic spark that SHE'S THE ONE I want to cast for the role and so I did.

There's much more depth into casting that most people realize, even in hollywood land which is all about profit.  Though usually they cast based on how popular the actress is, but sometimes they make exceptions if they really fit the role well.

I doubt this blonde will be a permanent addition anyway, but we'll see.

You have a point, however I would have liked to have seen a tall, kinda buff Wonder Woman.  This Palmer gal is about 5'5.

I heard for a while that Mary Elizabeth Winstead was in the running for the role, she might have been great since Mary is about 5'10, too bad.

Well, the reports appear to have been debunked. WB said they'll announce the cast after they've chosen all the main actors.

But really, if the other hero actors were shorter than six feet, despite what Hollywood could do, should that be a problem? I liked Michael Keaton as Batman. He's only two inches short of 6 feet. Clark Bartram is shorter than Michael Ohearne but those two pulled it off in Sandy Collora's "World's Finest". Why? They had the mature physique. WW wears very skimpy and revealing clothing. So I want an actress who can fit the Amazonian stats. That way she looks like she can play with the big dogs.

We'll be getting close-ups regardless of their heights. But when these actors stand next to each other, should it bother us if they don't match sizes, like if GL or Flash are taller than the Holy Trinity?

    Hmmm….

After a while, it was just difficult seeing Storm look up to Wolverine in the X-men Movies.  But i guess something has to give in these comic book adaptions, I just wanted to see a tall "badass" Wonder Woman like how Alex Ross draws her.

Check her, now that IS Wonder Woman!!!

I seem to remember that Angela Bassett was originally slated to play Storm.  I also seem to remember that Bassett wanted the role, while Halle Berry felt that it was somehow "beneath her dignity" to be in a "comic book" movie.  (At least that's what I recall.)

Now, I don't know how tall Bassett is (especially in relation to Hugh Jackman), but I think she'd have held her own enough that she wouldn't seem to be "looking up" at anybody, even if she was shorter.

Actually, Angela Bassett is a few inches shorter than Halle Berry, so she would have been over a head shorter than Hugh Jackman. I understand what you're saying about the way she carries herself preventing the viewer from noticing the height difference, though. Personally, I didn't notice the height difference with Halle Berry either, but for me, Wolverine's stature wasn't an integral part of his character. It's different for Wonder Woman, as she is meant to be an Amazon, who are a race of famously tall and strong women. It just won't be convincing having her only come up to the shoulder level of the male super heroes. I would also be surprised if they go down the path of trying to make make her look tall with camera angles, and standing on boxes, etc. There would just be too many wide angle multi-character action shots for a movie such as this.

Then there's the matter of her physique. She really is going to have spend a lot of time in the gym to even get to the "toned" level. Anyway, I have to say that this decision, for me, was a real slap in the face! It was such a great opportunity to cast a beautiful, strong woman in a leading role, and they totally blew it. I guess I'll have to wait until "Last Ride of The Valkyrie" to get made before I finally get my wish.

Same here.  I appreciate that she has to fit the part in terms of personality, but is it really the case that no tall, dark-haired actress had the right personality for the role?  Or is it (as I suspect) that a femuscle-phobic (i.e. easily-intimidated) exec vetoed any properly Amazonic actresses.  After all, we can't have the womenz making the menz look less manly, can we? We've got to keep them in their place!
    <sarcasm mode off>.
