Are held in Korea, Goyang. Again, I have no idea about TV-coverage in North America, but I guess those who are interested can easily find it out.
I'll try to write short preview before competition and short summary afterwards.

I've commented before, what is the level of competition in China – especially in women – so lets just say that in both weight divisions current world records were shattered.
Waiting with great interest for monday. Then will be Liu Chunhong in 69's and Cao Lei in 75 division.

Although there was rumours that she might retire after Beijing, but she affirmed that she will continue her career about a month ago. So Liu possibly wasn't as well prepared as her rivals and win in snatch went to other Chinese, Ling Jiangsu, with second best result of all-time 125 kg. In clean and jerk the situation normalized when Liu took his position and cleared the table with 147 kg lift and Ling failed a bit with only 140 kg performance. So this showed that it ain't so easy even for one of the best female lifter because there are always coming new faces who want to beat the champion.

Zhou Lulu did amazing 148 kg in snatch but the overall win went away as she was not able to deliver same kind of performance in clean and jerk. Qi Xi was able to lift 186 kg and totalled 323 kg which is only three kilos shy of Mi-Ran's world record. So lets see who is selected to represent China in the worlds.
Here is the last snatch lifts in 75's and all the lifts inclean and jerk. http://vod.cctv.com/video/VIDE1255964989000893
October 20, 2009 at 6:05 pm #87507cpbell0033944ParticipantThanks Maitolasi for once again compiling these results!
October 21, 2009 at 12:04 pm #87508Trash BoatParticipantNo problem, my pleasure. More comprehensive articles have been published in iwf news section. It's a bit weird that in weightlifting main media there's a couple of days delay in competitions this big. I might ask would they have a small job for me in addition to my studies ::)
As a statistic freak I need to analyse the results a bit further.
World records are like paper in this kind of competitions. In the first four weight classes in order to win those were needed to exceed and this climaxed in 63 kg group where the top three, Ouyang, Guan and Li Liying, bested the world records 12 times! The winning result 265 kg adds up to a 332.137 sinclair points. But even that wasn't the best performance in terms of points but this was topped by Wang's 220 kg in 48's with 336.003 points.
However it is said in IWF-rules:8.3 § World records may only be set at events in the IWF Calendar. This is probably due to lack of good surveillance. There are not enough qualified officials for every event and the doping control might be a bit questionable in some countries. The olympic committee has threatened several times to kick weightlifting out of the olympics if they can't get better control over this matter. But it is impossible to cut out this usage since there are not many big competitions in this sport and the competitors might come for god nows where and they need to get tested regularly based in order that it would make any sense. There simply aren't sufficient resources for that.
China really dominates weightlifting in women: 13 out of 21 world records are set by Chinese, they won 4 out of 4 possible olympic golds previous year and if we can figure something out from this competition, the trend is quite likely to continue this year.
For those who are interested weightlifting more in general, there will be some writing about mens competition in my blog.

The last time it as televised here was when it was hosted by Melbourne, way back in 1993!
