Don't quite know where to post this…
I just visited Wreckshop's blog http://www.pressoblivion.blogspot.com and his latest posting was January 25. I'll let you go there and see for yourself. I posted a message… I don't know if he'll get it (or ever will). Needless to say I found it disturbing. It seems to me it's a cry for help (not that I could give him much). Try this url I posted, or try the blog tag at amaZons and see if PressOblivion is listed. You might want to leave a message of your own to tell him how much he is missed.

February 6, 2006 at 12:48 pm #22058The Muffin manParticipantI have no sympathy for the man. The way he ran his forum it was like we were his loyal slaves. Had an idea he disagreed with? Shut up. Have a comment on one of his pics other than "flawless"? Go to hell. Don't like the constant barrage of tits and over-exposure of his work(I can't even begin to count the number of posts of artists were of his characters.)
what's worse is whenever there was a problem, there WAS no discussion, argument, etc. He layed down the law and everyone else be damned! In fact, we lost the monthly art forum(Monthly subject was picked, you drew it) because he didn't feel like listening to people argue wether or not one idea was worthy of an entire month. Usually civily.
In fact it was usually "That's not a bad idea, but it's WAY too similar to last month."
Also one of the posters that he trusted the most, too, was a complete and total jerk. Had absolutely no shame, paraded his characters around as superior to anyone elses, any art he drew was to be considered an honor…
All in all I'm glad we made the move.

I just think some people are born with an inate negative outlook on life. Makes them tough on themselves and tough on the people around them. Probably this feeling of never being good enough is what drives him to be such a good artist. Don't forget it costs money and time to run a website and perhaps he felt that sometimes he didn't get enough gratitude. Anyway, I hope that Wreck's post was just an example of his dark sense of humour and not as serious as it sounds. If he's for real I hope that he finds someone to talk to help him move past this low point in his life.
February 6, 2006 at 6:43 pm #22060Prophet TenebraeParticipantI think it's a general rule of the internet that if you have a blog and you're posting about how might depressed you are on it for the world to see – you aren't depressed, you're just emo.
February 6, 2006 at 11:22 pm #22061AnonymousGuestIf you didn't want to see drawings of big breasts and WreckShop characters, or otherwise be subject to the aesthetic whims of Ed Morges and his "trusted posters", Muffin Man, what the hell were you doing there?!
As far as WreckShop's "emo"–I'm with Tenebrae on this one, the guy's just whining (which we've all done at one time or another–some of us much longer ago than others). I wouldn't worry about it too much. And as far as "saving" the guy via web comments, BTX, I don't see how that would work to ease his "pain."
If he's just whining (and not clinically depressed) because Marvel and DC won't hire him, or because not "enough" people are looking at or buying his artwork–it's on him to man up and keep putting himself out there, and keep pushing his art until all avenues are exhausted (and this does not begin and end with the mainstream comic industry).
He's not owed fans, or a career simply because he exists, yet there's no VALID reason to not have "sympathy for the guy" because one didn't like everything about HIS web forum.
February 7, 2006 at 12:11 am #22062TheGovParticipantWe can surmise all we want of motives, personalities, etc. All I really know of Wreck is that he is a truly gifted artist and that for a time he ran a website which I really enjoyed. Many come and go with various levels of contribution. With no routine contact, one can only guess as to how things are with them, hoping for the best. F'rinstance, I had the pleasure of having some of my stories illustrated by Scoundrel, and now he seems to have gone his own way. I can only hope he's well and happy.
Whatever the interpretation, thanks to BTX for the update (however unsettling).
To Wreck, Scoundrel, and anyone else who has shared his or her talents, your efforts are appreciated.
February 7, 2006 at 12:52 am #22063btxParticipantLook, I'm under no illusions here. At first I hesitated to post the topic because, I thought he was just in his "blue" phase and it would pass. Frankly, it was the drawing that kinda disturbed me. (Blue yes… morbid… I dunno). I also had two former co-workers who were clinically depressed. One would spend days smoking weed ( why use a depressant if you're depressed? ). They other finally did the deed and killed himself years later. So in a lot of ways it's the throw of the genetic dice, who's blowing off steam, who's blowing their head off and who goes postal and blows everybody away.
I just figured a lot of us frequented his site and if you wanted to, you could send him an e-mail. Or not, as the case may be. There's no need to go negative on the dude in my opinion. If you've been in the game for awhile, then you know its not uncommon for board moderators to be dictatorial and "blow up" when they don't get their egos stroked and their groups collapse. I mean how often does that happen over at Yahoo?
Speaking for myself, I think it's a loss to the community when somebody talented goes down like that. Where are they now, the Scoundrels, the Cancuns, the Fetts…. (Oh waitaminnit, you're still here :-D) If you had issues with the guy, that's your beef not mine. I agree with Mean Dean that if he isn't clinically depressed (as only a doctor could know) he needs to get a thicker skin and DIY if he's still interested in putting out his art.
Still, if we are a community instead of geekcore porndogs, a few good words wouldn't hurt…

February 7, 2006 at 1:04 am #22064LuParticipantHere's my objective view-
Never knew the guy. Never knew his work. Never got in on the 'fad'. Never understood the hype.
But he does sound pretty damn emo.
February 7, 2006 at 2:26 am #22065AnonymousGuestNever got in on the 'fad'.
Fad? Are you talking about WreckShop's art style? Surely the "fad" you're talking about is not female muscle art?
