Fad? Are you talking about WreckShop's art style? Surely the "fad" you're talking about is not female muscle art?
No, incase you hadn't noticed I do make FMG art too.
I mean the whole thing about this guy- when he owned that forum and people now talking about him like he's a god or something. Well.. That was the impression I got from what some people have said in the past.
But I never knew what that was all about, so I don't really have a bias in one direction or another.February 7, 2006 at 3:26 am #22067AnonymousGuestI mean the whole thing about this guy- when he owned that forum and people now talking about him like he's a god or something.
Ah, I see. Specificity is golden, dear lady.
[color=Purple”>That was the impression I got…
That impression comes from the fact that people speak of him/his work with passion, which is every artist's hope.
Whether or not one is a fan of WreckShop's art, anyone who has first hand knowledge of the old site has to admit that the guy provided a much-needed "service" to the so-called female muscle art community, for a time–alleged egomania, warts, and all.
February 7, 2006 at 4:02 am #22068TC2ParticipantWas going to stay out of this one but I frequented the website just a few months after it opened, so I've been around the block for a long long time.
Wreck has the same problem that a lot of artists seem to have, and that is very low self esteem. He'd post his work and would always find something to criticize about it, but would definitely be boosted once people told him that his artwork was great.
I mean who else wouldn't have their esteem boosted when you're told you've done a find job?
But you see, the thing is Wreck was also stuck in a job that he hated. You could tell he hated it from the way he out right stated it to the way he would often talk about being pissed off he has to work at the place. This hatred for the job is what pretty much led him to be an ass sometimes, because quite frankly when you're stuck working a job you hate it will eventually get to you and change the way you behave.
I'm sure if he had the job he wanted things would have been much different, but he didn't and it led to some problems.
I didn't mind the way Wreck moderated the board, and in fact I think he was too lax because -some- posters were real a**holes to artists who were trying their best to draw some decent work and the forum posters would just come in and criticize their work instead of telling them how to improve it.
The Wreck forum was MUCH more civil than this place, this place has had more flame wars than Wreck's ever had and quite frankly I liked it that way.
Over at the Wreck's board the only headache we had was Jon Davis who had this obnoxious way of always wanting to do things his way and was never open to suggestions about doing something new and different. If it involved using computers to color he'd say hell no I don't want to do that etc. Compared to some of the posters here Jon Davis was merely an annoyance who at least did behave himself when he had to.
If Wreck's posting something like that on his blog I have a few theories, because I have talked to him in the chatroom once before:
– Wreck really wants to draw but problems in his life are preventing him from doing that.
– He also seems to be the type that doesn't get along well with others sometimes, as in he can be a real ass and has a certain attitude that wouldn't work well in the work place unless he adjusted it.
– I -am- concerned about his blog because although Wreck is a very negative guy he never made any posts about being suicidal or wanting to give up on life. This is the first time he's ever made a post like that and it would be something to worry about because he's never displayed this type of "emo" behavior before.
There's my analysis, but really the only guy who could probably tell you what's going on is Masschine.
February 7, 2006 at 5:29 am #22069FettParticipantHere's my objective view-
Never knew the guy. Never knew his work. Never got in on the 'fad'. Never understood the hype.
But he does sound pretty damn emo.
Wreck was the first FMG artist I saw that made me stop and go, "Man. That guy can DRAW." (Note: the "first", not the "only") He has real talent and ability to draw. His work is not perfect, but it's a damn sight above the curve of what the genre normally sees.

Not true. One of the early collaborations on his board was "Lady Death" which he picked because he'd been "thinking about the flip side of life lately". He gets depressed, and is vocal about it.
I wish him the best.
As for drawing comparisons between Wreck's board and this one – that's not fair to either board. I was happy there, and I'm happy here.
February 7, 2006 at 7:41 am #22070FettParticipantAlso one of the posters that he trusted the most, too, was a complete and total jerk. Had absolutely no shame, paraded his characters around as superior to anyone elses, any art he drew was to be considered an honor…
I'm trying to think who this could be, but I honestly have no idea. I don't remember anyone like that who Wreck trusted. It doesn't sound like Yatz, Red Silver, Masschine (who never drew), not DCM, Chris Morrison, Gideon, Coyote, nor TheCollector2, Iczerman, Archangel Dreadnought, nor John Davis (whom Wreck never 'trusted), nor Scoundrel (who never posted), Jenny McKenzie, nor Rex (Panasonicvodo), nor Lingster, Eegore, Alphacentauri, Joel, nor Buddy Busen.
I'll assume it's not me either, so can you tell me who you're thinking of? Because either we see the same person very differently or I'm forgetting someone.
February 7, 2006 at 9:05 am #22071DavidParticipantWreck wasn't the one who was whining about why he wasn't working for Marvel or DC I was. wreck has never had enough confidence in his abilities, always seeing faults in his work or in his work ethic.
Here is a bunch of his stuff posted at LH-Art.
http://www.lhart.com/new1/full/imag19.jpgFebruary 7, 2006 at 10:01 am #22072mangamuscleParticipantalways seeing faults in his work or in his work ethic.
Mhh, sounds fishy to me. Why? I have a little experience on this things and even tough there is always room for improvement (no matter if you are famous or have a career history one or more decades long) seems pretty obvious wreck has the level to work in the comic industry (maybe not in marvel or DC right away, more on that later), heck I have seen drawings not as good in countless comics. Now, if for "work ethics" you mean he can not commit himself to deliver the goods before a deadline, then he is toast. Comics are a business and care little for such things as "inspiration", "enthusiasm" and the like, if you can not pull yourself together to deliver the 24 pages on time no one is going to hire you, that is why you first build a reputation for yourself working in small press companies, this industry is shock full or people that can do stunning artwork, but cannot deliver it before a deadlines even if their lives were at stake.
February 7, 2006 at 10:23 am #22073The Muffin manParticipantI think it's a general rule of the internet that if you have a blog and you're posting about how might depressed you are on it for the world to see – you aren't depressed, you're just emo.
Prophet, we might not always get along. But goddamn do I love you right now.
Also: He never trusted John Davis? That's who it was. Maybe John was just a kiss-ass.
If you didn't want to see drawings of big breasts and WreckShop characters, or otherwise be subject to the aesthetic whims of Ed Morges and his "trusted posters", Muffin Man, what the hell were you doing there?!
You misunderstand. I don't mind big breasts and originally not his characters.
He just seemed to squeeze both into every page on the forum, at least 30 or so times, by posting and using every tit-based smiley he had added. It got to the point where I wondered if the site I was on hadn't been bought out by some big-breast fetishmag while we weren't looking.
I don't mind big breasts, but if I saw Shaun of the Dead(my favorite movie of all time) literally every time I turned on the TV, I'd get a bit sick of that too.
And his characters were whored out at every possible chance, which struck a nerve that the site was less "Hey let's all discuss a similar interest" and more "Hey let's all fawn over my work."
A site based around your art is fine and well. But it's like he disguised it as a forum for like-minded individuals, and turned out he was farming us for praise. And as for that list, Fett, everyone except Chris Morrison(personal issues. Unrelated to this) and John Davis(semi-related) I like. And everyone but John Davis and Jenny I love their artwork(again, Jen is from a personal preference thing).
*coughcough*And my favorite artist and person of all is Fett.
XD Just kidding. As far as FMG people go, Kulli rocks the hardest of all.
February 7, 2006 at 10:27 am #22074TC2ParticipantThe only person I knew Wreck trusted the most was Masschine, he even made the customized Aki avatar for Mass. But as for artist who was a total jerk, the only one that comes to mind was John Davis but Wreck never trusted him. So I'm totally drawing a blank as to who it could have been.
February 7, 2006 at 10:30 am #22075The Muffin manParticipantJohn Davis was the one I was thinking of. Again, John must have just been a manipulative slime-ball and a complete kiss-ass.
