Give Yourself Goosebumps #5 – Night in Werewolf Woods

One of those choose-your-own-adventure books. I read it when I was like 11 or 12 maybe and with those kinds of books I would always try and read every single path. One of the paths has you finding magic cheerios in your pockets, eating one turned you into fish or something, while the other one gave you huge muscles and super strength. You give some to the girl in your group and all marvel at your new muscles and she lifts a giant boulder or something. I think they were supposed to be impossibly huge as somewhere else in the book you feed them to some bullies and they get so big they can barely move.

It was the first time I remember reading about FMG and testing out strength in general, didn’t get the internet until a year or so later. I got it from the library for when I went on our family summer holiday and while even at that age I would choose books/films/whatever if they had potential for strong women in it, this took me completely by surprise. I’m glad I was staying in a tent on my own.

I secretly bought a copy a little later (not sure why secretly as no one would have ever suspected) but I think its been lost to time. PDFs and copies are still around though. Although the girl in the book is like 13 or 14 or something so lets not get weird about it.

My question is Why is there a NEW law in the UK about kidnapping someone??
Are you saying that dating a girl is considered semi-hostage tactics?
    So many questions!!

    What law is this?

Do you think such changes need to be extended to games? In games like Bayonetta, Street fighter, Dead or Alive and others?

    Yes.

I mean Dead or Alive is just ridiculous, and the new Laura character in Street Fighter was probably not the best move. At the same time, Japanese developed games so I’m not going to try and “force my own culture” or whatever on them. They have their own feminist movement starting but the country is still very conservative.

Although Bayonetta is a slightly weird one as while she is quite sexualised, at least in the first one, all the really strongly feminist women I know that have played it really love it because she’s such a strong and awesome character. Whether or not they just enjoy it and understand the problems in her appearance I’ve never been quite sure.

Bayonetta uses her feminine sexuality to make her powerful. There’s at least a bit more depth to the character than tits and glasses.

What we also have to remember is that sexy does not mean sexualised. As the industry moves away from hyper-sexualised designs, which is a good thing as others have pointed out!, we’ll likely start getting other sexy portrayals that are not demeaning.

And hey, if you want your hyper-sexualised superheroes, there’s never been a better time to find great illustrations of them online! Whether said hero is a woman, man or anywhere inbetween it’s so easy to post fanart to the internet these days. And these then don’t push away anyone else from enjoying the core story or characters.

Yeah, while I still think there was maybe some padding in her shoulders for the pilot, it’s definitely all muscle now.

Aside from it being a weird, it’s yet another photoshop making a woman look impossible, etc. Hawkeye Initiative that shit.

Anyway, I mean, I never had faith because Man of Steel was a pile of wank and it’s the exact same people. I’ll still watch it though because I’m part of the problem, apparently, and there will probably be some interesting/fun bits I guess? Probably won’t see it at the cinema unless I have good reason to though

I’m laughing at this pic of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

I love how badly photoshopped it is.

“Alright guys, we need to make Wonder Woman look HOT. Grab that shot where her tits look awesome, and then take the head from that photo over there. Sorted. Pub?”

Oh my God, I’d actually actively looked for stuff like this in the past but couldn’t find anything. Thanks a lot!
