Anyway, I got a request for ye swabs handy with a plume. I want to see pictures of pirate lasses! Needless to say, not just any scurvy wenches. Powerful ones with big 6-pounder guns! (And I don't mean cannons or muskets!) I want to see pectoral piratical pulchritude that can pulverize a pinnace with one punch!
And if they have generous treasure chests with lots of booty (if ye know what I mean)… all the better.
So why're ye just standing there reading this!? Start drawing smartly! Ahrrr! (-ΒΆ
Avast! In honor of today's foine tradition, I be presentin' a crude scribble just for ye! She be a foine seaworthy lass, with plenty of booty and a full broadside of great cannons! Alas, I be too tired to be inkin' 'er and such, but 'ere she is in all 'er hearty glory!
(Phew… much, um, larger than I'm used to. I think I've been looking at Gideon's stuff too much! :-D)
David EastonParticipantPhew. Okay, I lied about more shades in the highlights and shadows, but I did try to be a little less extreme this time. I did wind up spending most of the time on the pose… I'm still not sure if it looks right, but I've been staring at it for so long that I'm completely useless. π
Yep, I have attempted the dreaded BACK SHOT… definitely not my strong suit. Especially since I had to be extra difficult and stick Emmy in a rather… unconventional pose.
Seems her new thong bikini isn't as comfy as she hoped! Poor girl! πΏ
David EastonParticipantHoley crap! Awesome muscle tone, man. Lemme see… The skimpy outfit looks great. Her arms are very wide compared to the rest of her body, but I dont know if it was your intention. The part on the right elbow looks funny, I have this kind of problem too. The coloring is good, just a bit simplist, even with the shading effect.
Anyway, nice work on the lineart, and keep posting, dude πThanks for the critique! Yeah, the arm size is intentional… I guess I've got a thing for girls with biceps bigger than their waists. π
As for the elbow, yeah, joints aren't my strong point. I've got another in the sketch stage that I'm also having arm trouble with, but I'll soldier through and put her up for analysis soon.
I'm also going to try for more than three shades for the skin this time! Watch out, I'm crazy! π
David EastonParticipantWell, I'm not going to say that this is the way to color in the computer, but it's the method I use, and I'm given to believe I get pretty good results with it.
Hmm… airbrush might work, too. Plus, actually making use of layers might make things easier… outside of making one layer to "ink" the piece and paste it to a fresh sheet, I have wound up just "coloring in" the pic. Too much time doing it the old-fashioned way, I guess! π
Also: Your work is AWESOME, Mister Matthews. Just so you know. π
David EastonParticipantWhew! Well, the momentum of the first drawing carried me into the second! So, without farther ado, I present Emmy again in a slightly more formal setting. I also made an attempt to show her flexing her left quad and tricep… dunno if I pulled it off, or just made her look asymmetrical. Shadows are darker and skin tone was changed to try to fit the background more…and I got a little crazy with the highlights. She almost looks oiled… not that there's anything wrong with that! πΏ
Also, I'm becoming a big fan of the Smudge option. Great for taking the edge off those shadows and highlights!
Again, comments and criticisms welcome! Especially in regards to the first one; is there anything I seem to be doing better this time out? Worse?
David EastonParticipantThanks much for the compliments! I do in fact have another on the way, but it takes time for me to churn 'em out because I'm not sure of the "right" way to color and shade. I'm sure there's an easier way than the puttering around with palettes and then trying to smoothe it in without smudging the ink-lines that I've been doing… once I get a better idea of layers and the retouch functions, I'll go faster.
Right now, I'm working entirely on my knowledge of paper drawing and colored pencils, which doesn't entirely translate over to a Wacom tablet. π
But I've scanned another in now, and am already doodling a couple more… the floodgates seem to be open!
