Of those who have got to the Ms O finals in recent years, the only one I can immediately think of who has escaped excessive virilisation is Alina Popa, and I dread the thought of her ending-up as a gravel-voiced, square-jawed Lauren Powers clone in an attempt to win the few remaining big events.

Don’t know, but in her recent pix, Alina appears to have reduced some.

Maybe she’s considering going physique, or plans to go the independent route of Nikki Fuller.
She’s maybe feeling that either the FBB scene is dying, or that she doesn’t feel the sacrifices to win the few remaining events are worth it.

Hmmm…

She’s definitely cute, but this raises what, to me, is an interesting cultural question. Here in the UK, court proceedings are not televised – there was an experiment a while back with one case, but I’ve not heard of any more such experiments being performed. In fact, cameras of any sort are banned, so, when cases are mentioned on the news, the images produced by court artists are shown. Given that I come from that culture, where court proceedings are viewed as somewhat sacrosanct, the thought of discussing the buffness of a female witness in a murder trial having viewed her witness testimony is somewhat surreal to me, and rather unsettling. Not saying it’s wrong, just that different cultures have different approaches to the same issues.

BTW, for the sake of accuracy, I ought to explain that public judicial enquiries ARE televised; the Leveson Enquiry into phone hacking by News International employees (the European arm of NewsCorp) being a good example, as they are public and deemed to be in the public interest.

Not surprising, but at least she is maintaining her femininity. If she starts getting that deep voice or caveman like jaw, then it might be time for her to quit before she destroys herself.

Agreed. I posted it as I found her candour refreshing.

Just seen a surprisingly honest post from Shannon on her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/shannon.courtney.31) on the subject of PEDs. Here’s the quote, for those who don’t have a Facebook account:

NATURAL…NOT NATURAL??

Lets clear the air. No, I am not 100% natural, those who know something about this sport obviously knows that. BUT! That does not mean I’m juiced out and on a bunch of gear.
Anavar and clen does not equal test,Tren, masteron,Dbol, winni and whatever some want to say I’m taking.
No female should ever take those supplements.
Im off in my off seasons, only during prep do I take gear to help get that extra edge.
Taking supplements does not make it easier , anyone can take it but they will NEVER get what I’ve achieved unless they work their ass off and are on their diet 100% . It is not Magic!
Please ,educate yourself before running your mouth

That’s all off to train dem LEGZ

Thoughts?

I’m glad I’m not the only one to feel this way, Alex!

I hypothesise that there are, broadly-speaking, two types of femuscle fans – the first type is personified by femalemuscleclips who is enchanted by huge muscles on a woman with few, if any, caveats, while the second type, into which I can be categorised, are impressed by such women, but find that, in order to fully appreciate them, they need to find them attractive. It could be termed “schmoes vs. femuscle enthusiasts”,though this isn’t a distinction I agree with (for one thing the word “schmoe” is laden with baggage). It does perhaps explain why people such as Alex and myself find that fewer FBBers are hot nowadays.

There seem to have been many up-and-coming FBBers in recent years who have shown signs of extensive virilisation and possible HGH use (enlarged noses, squared jawlines and even heavy brow ridges) after only a few years in the sport. Of the rest, many, such as Britt Miller, have dropped-out of FBBing or are competing in Physique or Figure at present (Cindy Phillips being a prominent example), perhaps as they are unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to get to the top in FBBing. As far as I see it (and I speak as a biology graduate with a physiology Masters – not throwing my weight around, but I have some scientific insight here), Alina is genetically predisposed either to build muscle with lower-level PED use than many or to resist the virilising effect of those PEDs. Sadly, many others are not as genetically gifted and are therefore left with a decision – accept virilisation in order to compete in the upper echelons of the sport, or switch categories/retire. IMO, a sad example of this is Aleesha Young who, in the space of a couple of years went from buff cutie to poster-girl for virilisation.

In stark contrast, there seems to be a new wealth of Figure/Physique women and many who are physical trainers with a web presence and a combination of attractiveness and muscle. I’m not saying that all musclechicks should conform to an unrealistic standard of beauty, but I think anyone with some common sense who has seen sufficient footage and photos of muscular women can tell the difference between a woman of average facial attractiveness and a woman showing the effects of virilisation.

That article sums-up the lack of intellect of the average Daily Mail “reader” – most of them thought her muscles were real, and the remainder were expressing the sort of reactionary close-mindedness expected.

The good thing is that he is encouraging her. Too many times are women chastized for having muscles. So good for him to continue encouragement, maybe she’ll change her mind.

Absolutely – she obviously lacks confidence in her body, and I’m afraid I’m putting the blame on society as a whole.
