ParticipantDavid Lettermen. If your not familir with his late night show, he produced the show "Everybody loves Raymond", and Danica Patric races for his team.
Given alex's use of the winking smiley, and given his personality here, I suspect he is teasing you.

ParticipantMay I be allowed to write a personal viewpoint on this whole dreadful situation?
I know I have mentioned this before, but, as it is so horribly pertinent now, I'd just like to relate how I first came to this community.
Late in 2006, I was between degree and postgrad study at University and had been broadening my knowledge via the internet. I'd long had feelings of what might be called pro-feminist thought, and, on visiting feminist sites and forums, was heartbroken and enraged by women's experiences of domestic violence and rape. I honestly felt ashamed of my gender. I asked myself why more women didn't attend self-defence courses, then realised that many women's comparative lack of strength was a factor. At some point, (I don't remember exactly when) the concept of strength training as a self-defensive action was brought to my attention. Initially, the attraction was to the concept of women whose strength made them less likely to be victims. Gradually, (and, at the moment, this seems distasteful) this turned to a deeper attraction to the women themselves. The rest is history.
I'm sorry for taking a long while to write about myself. This tragedy has nothing to do with me or any of us. I just felt that I had to get that off my chest. It feels so horribly as though I had placed ridiculous pressure on these heroines of mine, and expected them to be somehow indestructable. God knows that this awful event has proven that illusion to be utterly wrong.
By all accounts, Amanda Savell had a heart of gold. Whatever the exact circumstances of her death, it is obvious that someone took the ultimate advantage of her character. It shows that those who say that feminism is irrelevant in the 21st century are sadly wrong. We must fight domestic violence tooth and nail; we must report it if we encounter it, we must speak-up about it, we must try to make it utterly repugnant to every sentient human. It is to the eternal shame of the male gender that many continue to do this awful act and that still more fail to combat it, or worse, to condone it or even joke about it.
Thanks for reading my rant.
I'll have to collect my thoughts now. Feel close to tears.

ParticipantOh wow, no matter which one of these scenarios comes true, it is worse than I envisioned. And it definitely shows how dangerous domestic violence is to any woman, especially when a strong woman like Savell could have been overpowered by a man (unless it was a third party doing a "rubout").
Amanda was strong by normal female standards, though almost certainly not as strong as during her bodybuilding days, (photos from then show very large arms indeed) however, Jacobs was a monster of a guy due to the cumulative effects of hs steroid abuse – supposedly, he was 6'1" and 260 pounds. Most men would have been in trouble if he went out of control. Romano does say that the one consolation was that Amanda "put up one hell of a fight" which, again, if true, confirms her character and gives us an insight into her courage. Sadly, a guy of that size and musculature would be very difficult to control with all that adrenaline in his system.
Is it wrong that when I found out she died that I hoped she had died in her sleep peacefully?
Of course not; I had the same reaction. It would still have been very sad indeed, but not half as gut-wrenching as this.

ParticipantI have been advised that due to extreme heat in the Washington, DC area, cooling at the data center where Amaz0ns is hosted may fail. In the event of such a failure, temporary shutoffs of servers in the facility would be likely, resulting in Amaz0ns being unavailable until sometime after sunset.
Thanks for the warning, Lingster. I'm glad I'm from temperate Blighty, even though we've seemingly had nothing but steady drizzle for about two weeks.
