No funny busty cherubs, I'm afraid, but here's every thinking British guy's favourite Page 3 model, Lucy Pinder, instead:

Wow, sorry Alex – Shulkie distracted me so much I didn't read the vital last part of your post – congratulations on 3000+ posts!

Agreed, offseason is much better, the women are bigger, stronger and (not so dangerously depleted) healthier.  And as I've said before in the past, I prefer a measurable criteria for superiority and ranking (i.e. amount of weight, number of reps, time to achieve goal, etc) such as the WPW Strength Extravaganza (i.e. if you've ever seen the video coverage of Zuzana Korinkova liftin' away you know of where I mean – nuff said.)  Or even the World Strongest Woman contests (been a while since that was on ESPN, or have you noticed – lit'l old Jill Mills musta intimated the men, hey?) To that of a subjective criteria with the placing going to the personal whims of the judges for that particular year.

When I think that I watched Jill Mills and Robin Coleman on the BBC in WSW in 2001 yet didn't appreciate what I was seeing… :'( :-[

As regards subjective judging:  I don't have any beef with the principle; it's the application that I dissagree with.  I would require all entrants to have bodyfat %ages taken by caliper (not the most accurate, I agree, but, if the same calipers are used throughout and the official wielding them is the same, then it shouldn't be too unfair) and a minimum %age set (with a 1% tolerance) so that contenders were not dangerously depleted or too dehydrated.  I would write the judging criteria to take account of obvious signs of virilisation (surely an experienced judge can spot the facial signs?) and to place a greater emphasis on quality of physique and proportion as opposed to sheer mass, thrilling though it is.  I would require a minimum length of routine and would encourage competitors to include interesting moves, particularly those that include an element of strength or flexibility by allowing the judges to add a small mark-up.

The purists would probably hate me for that, and I would say it's only a personal view.  I feel that there are now so many great young FBBers that the organisers have a golden opportunity to regain support that the sport had in the Cory/Anja era with marketable competitors such as Cindy (he says swiftly bringing his post OT again), but that, by indirectly encouraging heavy steroid use as they are at present, they risk letting that opportunity slip through their fingers.  Who among us would genuinely prefer for Cindy to sound like Ving Rhames (sp?) and have a square jaw and hook nose for the sake of an extra biceps inch?

I would agree with you on this, but then, isn't that why the fitness scene came into being in the first place? And the strength shows for the FBBs (usually showing them in "off-season" form, but with greater strength)? I would almost opt to see Fbbs compete in a more natural form, instead of…

I think that was, as you said, the reason for the introduction of Fitness.  Unfortunately, the physiques in Fitness tend to be rather less impressive, and the acrobatic level means that only ex-gymnasts can compete.  I'm not asking for acrobatics on the posing stage, just some interesting moves and maybe the odd manouevre that shows the woman's strength and flexibility.  Too many routines now are Figure 1/4-turns set to music.

As for conditioning, I'm not saying I want to see FBBs coming-in soft (though off-season is definitely my favourite) – just that there's conditioning and then there's plain dehydrated and haggard.

To me, this is great conditioning:

Alex – thanks for posting these – I saw them earlier today (no lab work to do at the moment so I'm working from home) and me eyes hit my monitor.  She's just getting progressively hotter!  I'm hoping, later this week, to do as promised and post some photos from her Yahoo! Group. 8)
