IMO, most female tennis players are poor physical specimens.  They often seem to either be carrying a fair bit of bodyfat *coughSafinacough* or they seem tall but skinny and with little muscle tone.  Of those I've watched on TV, there are only four that I call really athletic-looking – the Williams isters (though Serena is sometimes poorly-conditioned), Dementieva ans Stosur.

Oh yes, I agree, she doesn't look anorexic or skinny-fat at all.

What on eath is wrong with something like this?  Yes, it's true that it won't have the exposure of a WB film, but, if that never happens or they choose an identikit waif actress, surely quality will out?

"Anorexic" or "bulimic" might be the best description, as that is what often happens to women who develop a psychological eating disorder.  They eat and purge, but do not bother eating healthy (ie, a well-rounded diet) and do not exercise.  So their bodies react as they would in an emergency, stripping away as much muscle and non-fat tissues as possible in order to maintain fat reserves for as long as possible.

The end result is that they are losing weight, but they are unhappy with their appearance (their arms and legs may thin, and their necks and faces can seem gaunt, but they still have fat around their hips and tummies and the thinner extremities make this stand out even more).  So they accelerate their bad (and dangerous) course and wind up in a cycle that can be lethal if they do not get help soon.

It's a really horrible thing to happen to a person and is incredibly difficult to break from even when they realize what's happening and are on the road to recovery and better health.  It's why I can only shake my head when Hollywood and the fashion industry put this type of physique forward as some sort of desirable look.  It creates a very dangerous perception in the minds of young women that can lead them on a potentially deadly course.

One of the best posts on Amaz0ns for a long time. 8)

Look, I'm not an expert on the biology of sex, but I am a biologist, and the problem is that sex is a very grey area when you get to this situation, because there are many different sex determining factors – genetic, hormonal and gynaecological, not to mention psychological and psychiatric issues around gender (the perception of sex and how the individual perceives themself).  The problem is if she has male-like levels of testosterone, because that will provide her with an advantage that would probably be perceived as unfair.  Unfortunately, the reports I have read suggest that she identifies as female and believes herself to be female; hence the trauma that was caused by the insensitivity or the IAAF.

As for the question of how far my attraction goes, I am similar, I think, to Collector and hennellmikey.  If the FBBer/athlete in question has feminine body proportions, does not look facially masculine (which is NOT the same as being ravishingly beautiful) and doesn't have a ridiculously deep, gravelly voice, I'm happy.

Jamie Reed has a boyish face?

    *Looks again*

Sorry, but I don't see it.  She's not a stereotypical beauty as magazines dictate nowadays, but, IMO, some of the most beautiful actresses of years gone by were beautiful in unusual and interesting ways, and that's how I see Jamie Reed.  Physically, though, well, let us just say that I'm joining BK in joygasms.  Heavens above, I know it's not a big studio, and I'm not a comic fan at all, but, by gum, we finally have an Amazon heroine who is actually an Amazon.  Her body is stunningly lithe, powerful and sexy.
