I know the topic is old, but I had to comment again.

Let’s see, Ms. Fox has been bounced from the Transformers movies, Jennifer’s Body and Jonah Hex have seriously tanked at the theatre, and Jennifer’s Body tanked on video. Now she’s gone and gotten married, destroying the primal fantasies of just every Maxim reading fanboy out there.

Yeah, I’d say her career is over.

I know the Batmobile was a rush job and they had more time with the Black beauty

I’m sure if you donate to his Scottish independance group, it could be arrainged.

The Batmobile wasn’t even all that original. It was built off an old Lincoln showcar called the Futura. ( http://www.1966batmobile.com/background2.htm ) From the pictures, you can see its not all that “modified” from the showcar.

George Barris, the builder of the Batmobile, took credit, or tried to take credit, for a lot of custom cars. For the longest time, he was parading around a Black Beauty with twin sunroofs and a bunch of other stuff glopped on it, and claiming the Black Beauty was his creation. Until Dean Jeffries stepped up and proved he was hired by Greenway Productions and built all of the Beautys used in the show. Barris had just bought a promotional, non-shooting one and added his own modifications.

Barris’ design for the Black Beauty had actually been rejected by Greenway in favor of Jefferies. ( http://www.theblackbeauty.com/bb1/renderings.html ) Barris’ rather gaudy design is at the top with Jefferies proposal below. They definitely picked the better design.

Ashlee, I’m going one better anything you see on the 60’s Black Beauty or the 60’s Batmobile had to work. William Dozier made sure of that. And as far as Get Smart, well get smarter James Bond probably had the first of the rolling arsenalsin the movies.

On George Barris’ Batmobile, a lot of the gadgets were “close-up gadgets”. They worked only in close up shots because someone off camera had to fire a compressor or work a lever. Dean Jeffries’ Black Beauty they did all work the way they were supposed to, via switches by the driver. Even the flying scanner, while it didn’t launch or fly, did pop out of the trunk like you saw when the Hornet and Kato did a equipment check before “rolling”.

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5. There’s a really great book about it called “The Most Famous Car In The World”. Lots of pictures and history. The last remaining one, of the two actually used in the movies, is going up for auction this fall (the other disappeared under rather mysterious circumstances and may be at the bottom of the Carribbean Sea). Its expect to get somewhere north of $25mil.

Oh! one more thing if you go to you-tube punch in either Al Hirt or Al Hirt Green Hornet you’ll hear the original theme… beats some of this rap-crap.

Actually, I’ve got a soundtrack album from the original series that was released in Japan. On it, Al Hirt does a couple of different version of the theme. One is the standard and the other is even more frenetic in its sound. Al Hirt was an unbelievable trumpet player.

As for the Black Beauty, I like that they decided to use a 64-66 Imperial, like the TV show, but I like the original better. It looked “custom”, this one looks “pimped” with the 20″ wheels and tons of chrome. I definitely don’t like the 2 whoppin’ huge machine guns coming out of the hood. They look stupid.

I could go either way on this. Never read the comics, saw the TV show in reruns. Might be good, might suck.

Ya know, I’m in that same sort of quandry.

(Excuse me while I date myself)

I was a major fan of the TV show as a kid. It was right behind Wild Wild West for me. All the other kids were “biffing” and “zowieing” to Batman, but I love the Hornet. He had a cool style, partner, secretary and car. Ooooh, that car. :woohoo: After its run, I got acquainted with the serials and radio shows, thanks to Chuck Schaden with his old radio show Those Were the Days, here in Chicago.

You don’t know how bad I want this movie to succeed, especially after how they raped Wild Wild West on the big screen. The trailer shows potential with Kato, the action, the new Black Beauty and the homages to the TV show all through it. Even Michael Gondry as director. To me the weak link is Seth Rogan.

Rogan has shown in the past that he has only 2 characters he can reliably play, a drunk frat boy and a sober frat boy. The bits of him in the trailer show he may have a third, an attempting to reform frat boy.

The fact that Sony has given it a mid-January release date doesn’t bode well either.
