ParticipantAnd I for one… can only see a golden opportunity for a desktop background ;D
Truly awesome, DCM. This WOULD make a nice desktop, as Ritz said.
Did somebody say "desktop"?
1600 x 1200
1280 x 960
1024 x 768
800 x 600These were actually a little tricky to make, as the aspect ratio of the original pic didn't match that of most monitors; had to stretch the picture vertically. But I think it worked!

ParticipantI love Lileks! His "Institute of Official Cheer" is one of my favorite humor sites (along with Homestar Runner).

ParticipantDavid, this is shaping up to be one of your best drawings, ever. Can't wait for the highlights…
Thank you! …and you won't have long to wait:
#2, especially now that one of the forum members has graciously offered to assist in the choreography of the big fight between Tetsuko and Slade OH WHAT A GIVEAWAY!!David C. Matthews
ParticipantHey Dave, whats that offical stats on Tetsuko anyway?
I haven't given a lot of thought to her "official" stats, besides positing that she's 6' 3" – or is it 6' 5"? I keep forgetting ;D – because I have trouble extrapolating what her bust/waist/hips. upper arm, thigh and/or calf measurements would be. I just draw what "looks right" at the time, and sometimes that results in drawings that might be more or less muscular, or more or less busty than others I've drawn.
(And about her height – I think I'm going to say that she's 6'3". That makes her noticeably taller than almost anyone else she'd encounter, without making her so tall that she looks ludicrous trying, say, to hug her boyfriend, whoever that turns out to be.)
Dr. Sonya's showing some slight definition in those arms, better watch out Dave your femuscle art is creeping into everyone you touch!
You say that like its a bad thing. 😉
heh… Lingster noted the same thing back when I posted the first few strips on "Dyna The Damsel Dynamo!", and he noticed that even Deena had noticeable muscle in her arms and legs. He called it "getting greedy".
All I can say in my defense is …hey! I like muscles on women, even those who don't aspire to being bodybuilders. In Sonya's case, I'm thinking she gets regular exercise anyway, and Tetsuko has, subconsciously at least, inspired her to add more free weights to her regimen. Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

ParticipantBack to your pic… I'm not familiar with the process of the shading like you did with Sonia. Is there a way you could explain it to non-talented Paintshop folks like myself on what you did if it's not too much trouble. :-
Thanks,
ZCheck out this tutorial that I posted to my site some years ago; it's pretty much the same technique I still use. If you still have questions. let me know and I'll try to answer them.
I'm jumping the gun a bit here Dave….but how do you get the girls onto the background?. Do you have to carefully "cut" around their outline and then paste or is there an easier way?
At the moment, the line art, figure colors and beach background exist on three separate layers. The line art and figure color layers are turned on, the beach layer off. The blending mode for the color layer is "multiply", so that the line art on the layer underneath is visible. When the time comes to combine the figures with the beach setting (I can't call it the "background" layer because the line art layer, being the bottommost, is called "Background" in Photoshop), I'll reset the blending mode to "Normal" on the figure color layer, then (making sure the figure layer is on top of the setting layer) merge the two layers so that there's one layer that holds all the color, and one that holds the line art. I'll set the blending mode on the color layer to "multiply" once again, so that the line art shows through. It's easier than I've made it sound, really.

The days, they've passed in a blur. (Holiday tourist seasons tend to have that effect on me.) I've done bits of work here and there, on lunch breaks and the like, the past few days, but have always felt too lethargic once I got home to post the results. But here they are, the basic "three-dimensionality" of Tetsuko completed, waiting now for the addition of highlights and the gleam of suntan oil.

But now that I've got two days off, I should be able to make substantial progress, if not finish it outright. (That will be a relief!)

ParticipantThe only diet pops that I can tolerate are those which taste like their non-diet counterparts (7-Up, Vernors, Dr. Pepper).
You should definitely give Coke Zero a try, then. It does taste like regular Coke.
Day 8:
Holy crud, I've been at this pic a week already?? Oy.
Today was another long workday (as they all will be for about another week – the Easter tourist season, don'cha know), so I only got a tiny bit of work done.

ParticipantCould the software and a tablet make this artistic dunce produce work even 1/2 as good as yours, David? 'Cos if it can, I want them! ;D ::)
That's a good question. I'm inclined to believe that one would have to start with basic drawing skills, and that the software simply makes mistakes easier to correct, and special effects easier to accomplish.
(BTW, Wacom tablets do come bundled with Photoshop Elements and Painter Essentials, which are "lite" versions of their namesakes.)
Day 7:
I was able to devote most of today to the drawing, so there's quite a bit to show off. Sonya is, more or less, finished:
doing yardwork! 😮 ) But I might post more later, if I get more done before beddy-bye.*Ever since my doctor "advised" me to switch to diet sodas, I've found that Pepsi generally makes the better-tasting diet drinks: Diet Pepsi, Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi, and Diet Mountain Dew are my favorites. Although Coke Zero and Coke Cherry Zero are very good… they taste like their sugar-sweetened counterparts.

ParticipantWOW! Great find, Alex, thanks!!
She's gorgeous!

Participant*sigh!
I WANT A TABLET!…all drawings inked with mouse…. 🙁You're one of the artists I was referring to before… you'd be absolutely awesome if you could use a tablet! (Because you're already pretty awesome even with a mouse!)

Participant(Note: Interesting – I switched to Netscape from Safari to post this, and my images show up fine. So I guess it's the browser.)
Later:
Turns out there wasn't much to do with the Line and Pen tools, so here is the finished Ink stage.
