ParticipantYes, if the writer refers over and over again to muscles etc. This isn’t Supergirl, where a slender/skinny girl can possess super-strength without bulky muscles, explained away by the effect of yellow solar radiation on Kryptonian physiology, or whatever.
Now, the writer may not have been aware of pressure from Black on the artist to not draw her muscular, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen…

ParticipantMakes you wonder about what a movie version of Marvel Comics’ Medusa would look like!
I’ve got more thoughts about this in my deviantART journal.

ParticipantOops, I forgot to post that here myself. Thanks for doing that, Ashlee!
Between dA, my own site, here and now Facebook, that’s a lot to keep up with when posting new stuff.

For those who think tattoo’s accentuate the body buff, I don’t think I could handle it, and I’m not even in the sport. But I think every cut of the muscle should be seen for the beauty that the good Lord gave us to show the potential of the human body. Tattoos and body piercings just detract from the statement these folks are trying to make. Besides I don’t like needles
Agreed! I don’t understand the “appeal” of tattoos anyway, but especially on bodybuilders: why go to the trouble of developing your muscles to that degree if you’re just going to hide them behind ugly tattoos?

ParticipantI may have posted this before, but I figure there are enough new members here that this will be new to them, at least…
The year was 1979, and when I saw this book on the stands I had to snap it up! It was one of the few instances of a woman (outside of bodybuilding) portrayed as muscular.
And a nice closeup of my favorite part of the cover:

Participant*scribbles in notebook* “picture idea: Space Ghost and Jace laying across pile of steaming rubble, unconscious or near so, costumes scorched and tattered. In front of them stands Jan, placing herself between her loved ones and their attacker, wielding the power bands she’s taken off SG’s wrists, blasting away at still-unseen enemy (whose shadow is being cast over her?)”
IT! COULD! WORK!! Thanks, Ashlee… 😉
