ParticipantWhat you have there is the very first sketch of the Urusai as a species concept; so I guess the answer is both yes and no. :p Years later after much revision, Sheeri would eventually evolve from that first idea.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantOh yeah, you're right…I wonder why I had so much trouble with this pic?
Dr.Otto
ParticipantThat's an interesting observation…could be that she might just need a few more trips though the design board. It could be that the style might need to be adjusted to suit the concept more.

ParticipantThe forearms I'm leaving alone, largely because I *want* them to be smaller. I don't want to draw each character in exactly the same manner, so for this particular character, the legs and forearms will be a bit out of proportion (if that's even possible on a character that's out of proportion to begin with). I might make them a *little* bigger in future revisions, but they'll still be notably disproportionate.
Mind you, I still appreciate the feedback, but some things are the way they are by design. The (original) biceps weren't, but the rest were intentional design choices. I kinda felt that drawing essentially the same body with a different head each time just wasn't working for me, so now I've got to find new ways to get certain characters to stand out. In this case, some degree of disproportion amongst the muscle groups adds a bit of diversity and imperfection to the character…she might be huge, but she's certainly not going to win any bodybuilding competitions. :p Imperfections like these I believe add a bit of tangibility and realism to an otherwise incredulous character…I realize that this particular tack is a bit risky in that less people will like the finished result, but I'm okay with that. As mentioned earlier, she HATES leg exercises and has to be goaded into doing them, but loves working on her upper body and biceps/triceps. Forearms, apparently, are not very high on her priority list. :p

ParticipantThanks…I try to avoid cliche, but that doesn't mean I don't fall right into it a bunch. 🙂 For this character I really wanted something a bit different from the rest of my concepts because I plan on doing a lot with her over time. This one is my Lu, Tetsuko, or Ness. 🙂
Part of the reason I wanted to work with this particular concept is because Asian women are typically viewed as very small and unassuming, and I wanted to go completely the other direction.

ParticipantThey were a bit different in the original draft, but people were tactful in telling me that I'd screwed up. What you see now is the retool. :p

ParticipantLooks like you're the second person to comment that the arms need work. My intent was to create amazingly oversized biceps that appeared as if they were being pushed downwards as the heads were squeezed against her sides, but I'm not sure I presented it in the right way. I wonder if I'm not losing my touch in this line of art if I'm not catching obvious flaws like these.
*edit: feedback thus far motivated me to go back and trim/tighten the biceps a bit.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantYeah, she's pretty awkwardly constructed in virtually every way…and yeah, she hates leg exercises pretty much all around and has to be coerced into doing them. :p

ParticipantThanks! A character concept usually begins with a story or idea, which then helps me determine a lot of the characters' look. You can usually tell which characters of mine have been fleshed out or thought through, as they generally have a bit more visual personality…the vast majority of my work turns out pretty average when I'm drawing just to draw. When I sit and work with further developed concepts, things turn out a bit better overall, in my view.
This character is a culmination of all the 'one-off' characters I've drawn and posted here over the last year or two. I finally created something that I consider good enough to move into her own realm of development alongside some of my more lasting creations. Toughest part of the whole thing was making her look Asian without making her look like a racial stereotype, or screwing up the facial nuances like the eyes and mouth.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantRight, not mentioning the arms and stuff, that's a pretty good pic, well done on coming up with something new for the polymer, otto. I hope to see some more bad assery in the near far from this character 🙂
She's actually not connected to PCC in any way; she's totally outside that sphere as I try to diversify a little. :p
