ParticipantThat's gotta be tough to do…I have a tough enough time working in two dimensions. :p
Dr.Otto
ParticipantI pitched this to DCM last year over lunch: I believe there is a revenue model for a female muscle illustration site. However, there must be enough artists involved to manage at least five updates per week.
Well yeah, that's why I specifically said 'not a pay site'. I won't draw if the inspiration isn't there, so I won't nail myself to a set schedule anymore.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantOk, ok…there's GOT to be a way I can turn a buck offa this. And I don't mean a pay site; I'm thinking digital portfolio. I mean hell, comic visuals are done as collaborations between pencillers, inkers, and colorists; why can't digital art?
I mean, I already trun over a decent amount of money at PCC on my own with the monthly desktops…it could only get better from there.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantYeah, the color work on this is far better and far more elaborate than I'd been able to manage.
A little nit-pick: Tetsuko's eyes are bothering me a bit. Not because you've misinterpreted Chris's drawing, or even a fault in Chris's drawing; it looks like an example of something that works in a line drawing that doesn't necessarily work in color. It concerns the placement of the highlight; were I coloring it I think I'd have taken the liberty of moving the highlight jut a little, and giving her a little more pupil in the eyes
The anime art style is something that doesn't translate real well into 3D, I've discovered. Whenever I color more realistic anime characters, pretty much everything from the lower cheeks to the forehead are colored as if they're on a flat plane. Since anime facial features are so far removed from realistic facial anatomy, I've discovered that a lot of the detailed color work that works so well in Western comics are rarely applicable for Eastern ones.
To me, (and this is strictly from my perspective, and meant as a legitimate critique), the bridge of Tetsuko's nose is narrow enough to the point to where her eyes look too far apart; also consider that the eyes look a bit sunken into the skull wheras the anime art style makes them appear flat and flush with the cheeks.
This is never an easy sort of thing to color; I've never been able to figure out the best way to approach it, myself. This is the reason that you'll notice on pretty much every image of Sheeri(or any Urusai you can name, really), I never shade in the nosebridge (or 'muzzle' if you will) since I can never get it looking right.

ParticipantDammit AB, why do your characters hafta have dogfaces? I can't draw a collie to save my life. :p
Dr.Otto
ParticipantKinsyo is the only artist I've seen whose drawings of Tetsuko I like almost as much as my own. (Until Dr. Otto draws her, that is 😉
Is that so?
Dr.Otto
Participanthey there Doc Otto would you mind if I did a sketch of Uber Sheere?
Sure, that'd be great. I'd love it. 🙂
I also like the idea of different builds in the same image. I toyed with that in a desktop image (Andrah and Sheeri) well over two years ago.
Aristically, I'm sorta in this weird purgatory where I straddle the line between mainstream and fandom, but haven't excelled in either. I check out tons of FBB art listings and link lists, and I'm rarely if ever mentioned. Same holds true for finding my comic on internet comic listings…it's a pretty rare find. Sometimes I regret trying to walk that thin line, and I don't really know when all is said and done, if my efforts to try and bring society an understanding of the muscular woman will really have been worth the effort.
But hey, you just do what you gotta do, no matter how crazy it seems. :p
Dr.Otto
ParticipantNice work Chris, i agree one of your better pieces.
Despite the unrealistic size, I think she looks the most real of anything I've done so far.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantI didn't think you did that many She-hulks, at least I haven't seen that many on your site.
These were done in a direct-market fashion, wherein the original was sent to the buyer.
How about putting in you reserve the right to refuse request that you don't like? But I guess it's not important, since you don't do commissions or fan art anymore.
Yeah, I'm pretty much done with those.
Before you got tired of fan art, what did you like to draw the most? Game characters and such?
She-Hulk, mostly. If not She-Hulk, then Titania. iF not Titania, then Power Girl. The usual suspects.
I would have guessed Masshine would have like if you did Aki once.
Sorry for being nosy, just curious.Yeah, there's just this thing, though…people have a tendency to get bent if you draw one person's character, and not theirs. The minute you do one, suddenly everybody's after you to do one of some (or all) of their characters, and it's just not simething I have the time or inclination for. So basically, to avoid hard feelings within the community, I only do fan art on a for-pay basis, and it's not cheap.
Dr.Otto
ParticipantEgads, you must be rich then
I was doing better back then, yes, but I was only doing one commission every 1-2 months. I stopped doing commissions because honestly, I got tired of drawing She-Hulk (and I got tired of all the fem-dom requests, even though I repeatedly told people that I do not do them). It's part of the reason I don't draw fan art of any variety, also.
