Here's my two cents.  He knowingly and willingly handed victory to Mephisto, who is basically the devil.  He destroyed what was explicitly said to be(even though it was only introduced as an excuse for Mephisto do want to do this crap) a one in a million match that was true love and blessed by God.  He did this when lots of people, including Aunt May herself and _GOD_ told him not to.  And in the process, he erased a few people from existance.

Why?  Because he wanted an easy solution to his problems.

Mephisto offered the Silver Surfer deals that were a _million_ times sweeter than this.  He never took them.  Why didn't he?  Because he knew that if he did that and took the easy way out, Mephisto would WIN.  And Mephisto winning is never a good thing.  He's among the most evil beings in the universe.  If he offers you a deal like that, you can rest assured that even if you can't see any harm in it, it's still there.  Because that's what he does.  He makes the universe a worse place to live in for everybody.  And if you make a deal with him, you're helping him to do that.

How am I supposed to see him as a hero now?

I bet Mephisto gets his soul, now.

Not really.  I used to keep it quiet, but now pretty much all my friends know, and none of them think it's that weird.  Then again, we're a pretty weird bunch I guess.  My family probably knows, but I don't really feel the need to tell them in the event that they don't.  I'm pretty much a bachelor for life(I don't believe in romance), so the girlfriend element is completely absent and a moot point besides.

It is depressing.  My brother works at a restaurant on campus, so I called him as soon as I heard.  Thankfully, he's fine.  My dad knows some of the engineering faculty up there.  Infact, he was supposed to meet with one in a few days.

Nothing ever hit that close to home for me.  It made me feel sick.
