Don't you think that the original American Gladiators coming just after the Cory Everson era of FBBing encouraged women to use weights?

It is very possible that women that were working out saw this as an inspiration to work out a bit more and put on some muscle, I just don't know that it inspires the masses that aren't working out to get off the couch.  I could very easily be wrong but I just don't see it.

I'm also a little disappointed in your "acting like Barbarians" comment – yes, the whole point of it is that it's combat-based, but your comment suggests that you find the experience of buff chicks in spandex battling each other a bit beneath you.

I was expecting a response on that comment, so here is my reply.  I am most definitely not above such behavior in spandex-clad muscular women, but that is partially my point – men like to watch that type of thing (Lingerie Bowl comes to mind ::) ) but I know that my fiancee is completely not into that type of thing and I would imagine that most women are not.  I have not done a study, nor am I an expert in the area of the typical female, but I have always gotten the impression that women tend to look at that type of behavior as caveman-ish.  How many times have you seen or heard women scoff at men when they start that behavior (chest bumping, flexing, roaring, or just boasting about their superiority?)  I have heard it several times which is what leads me to that conclusion.

I guess if someone that is beautiful and muscular can use American Gladiators as a springboard to things such as being a trainer on Biggest Loser or some other medium by which she can get a positive message to other people about being healthy, then I guess his first point is a moot point, but if she simply believes that by her being on American Gladiators that people are going to flock to the gym to have the same body she does, then I believe she is sorely mistaken.  I'm sorry, but I don't believe that women flexing all the time and acting like barbarians is what drives women to the gym.  On the other hand, men flexing and acting like barbarians probably does get men to go to the gym.

I also believe that he totally gets off topic with his follow-up comment about overweight women in spandex on the beach.  To blame Valerie and her fellow gladiators for the reality that some people don't know what looks good and what they have no business wearing is completely without thought and just plain wrong.  And to put it on her shoulders to push his message is uncalled for and also wrong.

Phenoms, (Sorry also for the horrifically egregious spelling error.)  😉  It all sounds good to me, and I'm glad we got this cleared up.  🙂

Phenom, you obviously feel I have made a personal attack on you.  I did not intend to and I am sorry if you feel that it was.  I simply feel that the word muscular has been "thrown around" a bit loosly.  You and I are allowed to disagree on this matter.

I (while not condoning piracy at any level) know that I have been guilty of this in the past as well.  I have found artwork online that belonged to a pay site and taken it for myself.  It was wrong, horrible, and just plain awful, but I have also driven over the speed limit, I have pushed red lights, I stole candy bars as a little kid from the local grocery store, and I use the Lord's name in vain frequently.

My point is that before we crucify Magnus Magneto for doing something that we view as wrong, let's make sure we don't do something ourselves that someone else considers wrong or is just plain against the law — "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" – Jesus Christ

With that said, I am much more likely to sign up for one month and cancel immediately than to get a regular subscription and just keep it.  I have probably spent upwards of $10,000 to feed my obsessions over the years, it just doesn't feel like it at the time when you spend $10 here or $15 there.  I probably have over $2000 wrapped up in 3d Poser and Daz|Studio programs, models, etc.

We are being far less "loose" with the word than you suggest. Just look at some of the women in Figure divisions, or at amateur female bodybuilders. Many are very small, soft, and lack any noticible muscle… many are far smaller, softer, and less muscular than a great number of the names mentioned in this thread.

I think I have to agree a little more with Grandmaster on this one.  Pretty soon we won't be able to list anyone else on this thread because they will all have been named and the only ones that won't have been named will be because they are obese.  Several pics show what would appear to be muscle but could very well simply be an arm or leg pressed up against something.  Other pics are undoubtedly muscle but many of them are just illusions and wishful thinking by an optimistic eye.  I have never once thought of Pamela Anderson as muscular.  Is she shapely, yes, did she make men drool, yes, but I have never once seen a bicep of any discernable size on her arm.

As for the figure competitors you brought up, my only question is this, "Did they win?"  I seriously doubt they won, because any picture I have ever seen of a winning figure competitor shows very defined (not neccessarily large) muscle.  I have yet to see that definition on almost any "celebrity" that wasn't an athlete "Layla Ali".

To say that Christina Applegate or Jean Louisa Kelly (Yes, Dear) are muscular is IMHO reaching pretty far out there and therefore a loose interpretation of the term.

Linda Hamilton was not large but very defined so muscular works, Hillary Swank was very defined and again not large so muscular also works.

Thats got to be the best back side I've ever seen.

I am completely and utterly torn between her back side and Jamie Koeppe's back side.  Mavi definitely has more muscle (which might give her the edge) but Jamie is just so damn cute!

    Comparison

Here is the link to the greatest Jamie Koeppe thread ever!
