Hi y’all. New to the Forum.

I saw this movie last weekend in 3D IMAX. Although the dialogue was occasionally cringeworthy and the plot setup was (in my opinion) contrived, I allowed myself to enjoy the movie. It’s visually arresting, and preserves the look, feel, and texture of the world of the cartoon from 1995. It doesn’t make the same grasp at profundity as the original, which could be a weakness if that is something you really found compelling in the cartoon.

There was indeed a brief “muscle sequence” as Major rips off pieces from the top of the spider-tank, a la the original, albeit not one so shocking as in the animated film. In the live-action film, the Major is in a bodysuit on top of the tank, attempting to rip off a piece a large panel from above. You clearly see a special effect of Scarlett’s biceps and back muscles growing somewhat larger as she strains briefly before tearing herself to pieces.

I wasn’t expecting this at all, so perhaps that’s why I wasn’t disappointed; to see *any* amount of a discrete muscle growth effect in Scarlett Johansson, who many consider to be the most beautiful woman in Hollywood, was real nice.
