ParticipantI'd noticed lately that the mood had gotten pretty thick in the Free for All, what with discussions on Iraq, Rosie O'Donnell, the rise of Islamic militants, talk of the USA vs. Everybody Else, and all that.
I felt like nobody I rooted for could catch a break. From whence cometh any help?!
Then I saw this: the answer to the whole shebang. ๐

ParticipantAnother cliche I'd been thinking of…
The unattractive, smallish, 5 foot nuthin' 90 lb. mousy, unhappy girl… becoming supersized in all regions and when she gets to live live in the bigger, newer, bod, everything is just wonderful! ;D ;D ;D ;D
When's the last time you read a story, where the girl is small at the start, but happy that way? She's still cute, sweet, quite lovely, well adjusted, almost everybody and life for her is sunshine and lollypops…
… then the Accident kicks in.
And as she gets more mass, more height, and curves and bulges that weren't there earlier… she doesn't like it one bit! ๐ฎ

ParticipantHmmm. I hadn't realized that Germany had any troops in Afghanistan until I'd seen a DW documentary on Hong Kong's channel ATV World. I doubt that the press back home in the USA would've covered that immediately.
But press-wise, I think that's the same story the whole world over. In my journalism classes in college, my professor told me that one death in your hometown is worth 1000 deaths in a foreign country. That's pretty much how it operates in Hong Kong, Australia, and other communities… I don't hear a lot on what goes on back in Mayberry meself 'round here.
(Then again, when I watch the news out of Hong Kong, any reports that cast the mainland gum'mint in a bad light tend to get dubbed out by a loop of PSAs in Cantonese… but that's another story.)

ParticipantHi there, ProfUltima! Welcome!
I never got no badge, neither… ๐
But, (1) this ain't Newgrounds, and (2) to quote a line from Blazing Saddles…
"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

ParticipantHmmm… that last sentence, pelourinho. I never stopped to think about it that way… and it does make a lot of sense.
On that side of the coin, guys… do you find that your male protagonists are a lot like yourselves, or someone you could root for getting the girl at the story's end?

ParticipantI wonder if Tom Kennedy (Nightime TPIR) would be due for a short comeback if the CBS Brass can't make a decision? It's likely he's as old and less in shape as Barker though.
Never seen John O'Hurley unfortunately.
My thoughts exactly. I remembered Tom on his nighttime run. He's no Bob, but I'd prefer him. And Wink Martindale… is he doing anything earth-shakingly important right now?
Oh, and Vollar-tile… a confession.
I first remember and loving TPIR when I was only 4. And that was way back when Bob Barker's hair was naturally brown (AFAIK). And it had been a childhood dream: when I got old enough, if the show was still on, I was going to go to Hollywood and attend a show, and if I could… get on as a contestant. I dreamed (and still do sometimes) of what I'd do, what I'd say, and what I'd win.
It's something I never followed up on, because I simply didn't have the cash or time to go to LA. And NOW, when I just might have the frequent flyer miles… Bob retires. I figure, well, seeing his replacement's better than nothing.
If it's Rosie, though… my dream is dead. :'(
Oh well… there's still GSN reruns and YouTube…

ParticipantJust gleaned this from the Drudge Report:
http://www.breitbart.tv/html/1762.html
According to that clip, Moore doesn't have a problem with the downloading as long as whoever is doing it isn't making a buck off it.
Not sure what to make of it personally… but since I don't watch his flicks anyway, for me the matter is moot.
