KeymasterOnly one thing… I don't think they had guys' shirts with that pattern back in the prime pulp fiction days.
He's in the FUTURE. And it turns out in the future that guys DO wear shirts like that. At first I was going to dress him up like something out of the Jetson's, but then I thought, "Why not have them actually get it RIGHT?"

KeymasterParts of it were good, parts of it were bad. If I have time this evening I'll post some screencaps. Overall the show was pretty good but Nicole Bass was a huge turd in the punchbowl.

KeymasterNote that Shelly identifies the title of the show as "The Inside Lives Of Female Bodybuilders", whereas the Ablow website says it's "Inside the Minds of Female Bodybuilders". It's not uncommon for some TV shows to play "gotcha" with guests: misrepresenting the theme or direction of the program to gain cooperation.

KeymasterAs long as there was one participant who's reasonably sane, I suppose we can't grumble. What I feared was that this guy would use his position to conclude that any woman who wants to build muscle is insane and that it's wrong, unnatural, deviant etc. That would do a lot of harm if it happened. I hope that wasn't the case – did anyone here get to see it?
You're hours ahead of us! I've got my DVR set to record it when it plays later this morning, but my DVR is a pretty old Sony Vaio that fails sometimes. So we'll see.

KeymasterThese aren't really cliches so much as frequently repeated shortcomings in the quality of the writing:
- Shortage of paragraphs.
- Absence of punctuation.
- Use of measurements as an introduction, e.g. "Chapter 1: Monica was a young girl who was 18 years old, five feet three and 108 pounds when she found a magic charm in the bushes even though she didn't know it was magic until later!"
- Overenthusiastic employment of the exclamation point.
- Nonsensical measurements, e.g. "73DDD bra" or "43 inch calves". Bra fitting is a formula and it's not hard to understand how it works. Also, a person with 43" calves would not be able to walk.
- The overuse of simile has been noted earlier in this thread.
- The under-use of relative comparisons also annoys me. Quality fiction generally shows an interplay between characters. So if a girl's muscles have grown, it's better to compare them to the muscles of the other characters rather than to citrus and sports equipment.
- Dearth of dialog. Normal people don't speak in perpetual soliloquy. Remember: interplay of characters is important.
- Story pacing is often whack. Authors should take their time about getting to the growth sequence.
