Keymasteror you could just post more entries about controversial BOFH moderation policies. After all, it got me to post, right? 😉
And I admit that it was my intent to provoke a response. Otherwise I would have posted this in the moderator forum.
So how about if I create an introduction board? New members and lurkers would be encouraged to post a bit about themselves to a new post or an existing introduction thread. Does that sound workable?

KeymasterNo, saying "Hey you can't see anything until you have signed up and have 40 posts" defeats the purpose of having this place. because then why not just go to Unreal Muscle or a Yahoo group?
You're the only person saying "Hey you can't see anything until you have signed up and have 40 posts". I was thinking more like three posts, and only restricting access to the story boards.
People who are members here still set up Yahoo! Groups. I don't know why they do this, because I would gladly create news boards or member groups here for them, but they do. And that's fine.
As for the ads, the ads don't bring in much money. I'm trying to remedy that by playing around with placement and ad providers, but I don't expect them to ever be a significant revenue source. And the ads don't have top priority – my number one concern is contributing members. That means looking after the existing contributing members and trying to develop more contributing members. And that's what this is about.

KeymasterIn my life I've observed that people only really value things that they pay for, or that have been taken away from them. The cost to be a member here is very low – it's effectively zero – and people in general clearly don't value the site. That's fine, but now I'm going to set a price for full access, and that price will be participation.
The only straightforward argument against this that I've heard is that people might leave and start a new board in protest, but since we're specifically talking about lurkers, I doubt that will happen. And if it did? That would be great. More boards = good.

KeymasterFunny thing is… the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) just ran a short article indicating that Beckinsdale is "in the running" for the role. A joke gone too far? At least I hope it is… Nothing against Kate per se, but the choice would seem to be …. safe… and that might not bode well for the movie.
Don't get me wrong. Beckinsale is absolutely beautiful and I certainly wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, but her build is in no manner heroic. She's willowy. (No pun intended.)
Also this isn't going to be a costume-driven movie so whoever is cast has to have the body to pull off a bronze age amazon warrior. It's always a challenge for wardrobe people to design outfits that mimic comic books but don't look ridiculous. The recent movies built on the Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men and even Fantastic Four franchises have all done pretty well with costumes, and the new Superman movie looks to have done so as well. But that line between fidelity and realism simply won't be possible with Wonder Woman, because the bustier is too absurd to translate to the screen. I would be tremendously surprised to see the bustier outfit in the movie as anything more than a gag – a "you-want-me-to-wear-what?" moment when some publicist presents it to the newly arrived superhero as suggested branded attire.
More likely is that Diana will first appear as "Wonder Woman" wearing some kind of Greco-style bronze age armor set reminiscent of what she wore in the Perez-drawn comic from the 80s. And if they update that costume during the course of the film, it will likely be some combo of sports/technical clothing and kevlar/ceramic tactical gear.
To some extent the same thing was tried with the Reb Brown Captain America TV movies in 1979. While the implementation was poor, the idea that Captain America would have modern gear (i.e. the clear polymer shield, stealth motorcycle, etc.) seemed to me very credible.
So if the Wonder Woman movie is set in the modern era, her garb should be modern. That would mean some kind of ceramic armor on her torso, perhaps with some kind of black spandex unitard/sports bra underneath it. Also, she would wear loose khaki tactical pants, and some kind of ceramic armor on her shoulders. Obviously the bracelets would also be ceramic, with their surfaces angled to allow for more controlled ricochet. Her fotwear should be modern material in an ancient sandal style – not all that different from what Nike produces today…
I'm not sure what to do about the tiara or head covering. It may be that the best approach for that is some kind of updated Greek infantry helmet fashioned of modern materials.

KeymasterIt was a joke.

KeymasterI blame Maxorg, King of the Volcanic Lava Cactus Men. It's hailing outside, which means he's up to his no good tricks, once again.
CURSE YOU MAXORG!
All I can think of is that it might be a session cookie problem. Amaz0ns wants to give your browser a cookie when you begin a new session, so if you're not accepting cookies the site may simply treat you as if you've already been online indefinitely.
Do you have cookies turned on?
Amaz0ns actually sends quite a few cookies to manage sessions – it's the downside of using several different pieces of software to manage the site.

KeymasterWith the new chat application I have the ability to create additional "rooms". But so far we still have low adoption on the main room, so let's wait and see.

KeymasterHeh.

Keymasterthats cool, i though there will be hidden stuff to this board.
now i know how the goverment works. lol
The hidden boards are fairly inactive. You're not missing anything.
There are only two hidden boards – one for the moderators and senior contributors and one for people who I have met personally or corresponded with for a long time so that I feel I know them personally – I think of it as my office, really. I am open to creating more hidden boards for other interest groups – perhaps people who live in certain cities or something like that – but I don't really see a need for that right now.
One thing I would be willing to do is to create a group just for female members. We'd just need to find a way to vet them to be sure they weren't guys posing as girls, which I suspect is 25% – 50% of the "female" membership of the site.
