Aki got her fangs, and cat-like eyes thanks to a genetic resequencer that she administered to herself. She was unaware of what it actually was thanks to some subterfuge by her collaborater who intended it for different purposes.
I actually have a young neighbor of her's who upon seeing Aki's new attributes actually starts making signs of the cross screaming she's a vampire.
