ParticipantThanks for answering my queries. I understand that, even with all of the different angles Dave has drawn of Tetsuko's face over the years, there's still a lot to interpolate. As long as Dave is happy, what the hell can I say? :-
If you're interested, I found a reasonable hair tutorial on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh1SzN6tlCE&feature=channel. However, as well as being easier, polygonal hair might be easier to print if you end up going that way.

ParticipantWhen I checked out some of their work in progress videos on their site, I saw that they actually do have a muscular system in place for the upper body, so I guess it's a matter of time before they implement it for the lower body as well.
Tigersan, another technique for getting realistic muscle deformations, that may be more suitable for your workflow, is to use animated, blended displacement maps. The basic idea is that you sculpt the muscles to the right shape for various extreme poses and the resulting displacement maps then automatically blended together when you put the model in an arbitraty pose. It's a bit like joint-controlled morph targets, only better.
A user called Big Guns has demoed the technique over at this Zbrush Central thread for his amazingly realistic Arnold Schwarzenegger model, which was completed over a period of 3 years I might add. Note that the final rendered images of the model are at the end of the thread. He said he is going to post a "making of" article for this model and, even though it's a male bodybuilder, I'm sure there's still a lot that we could all learn from studying his techniques.

ParticipantWow great progress there, Tolan. I agree with Dave that her forehead could be a little more rounded. Also, I'm thinking that the chin and nose could be a bit pointier and her lips a bit more defined and fuller. Perhaps you could post profile and front-on shots as well, so we can better check out the likeness. Also the rim around the eyes looks a bit unnatural, but perhaps you haven't got around to modeling the eyelids yet.
I found some good reference pictures from Dave's comics here, but perhaps he has a some sort of character sheet or something he could send you.

What modelling program are you using, by the way.Reason
ParticipantI've got 2 words for you… "3D-PRINT"!
It looks like your're using NURBS, right? Probably a good choice for an anime-style model. Anyway, it's looking good so far and I hope you keep posing updates of your progress.

ParticipantWow, nice pic. The heads and bodies work really well together.

ParticipantWhat I didn't expect is that nobody would even acknowledge its existence, even the one person who posted a reply to the thread after I posted the pic (not to mention BK himself). Is it that horrible a drawing?
Nah, it's a great sketch, Dave. And I'm sure BK is going to get round to making a comment. After all, he's not safely on his own two feet yet :).

ParticipantI noticed from the Muscular Development gallery that Amanda competed in the Figure class of the Excalibur in 2007 and came 12th. She then came back a year later to compete in the bodybuilding class, and as a heavyweight no less, and came first!
I think there's something in that for all of us :).
Reason
ParticipantYeah, that's a fine example Neocene. I would say that more and more commercial statue and action figure masters would be produced in this fashion as well. I look forward to the day when DeviantArt has a "Buy 3D Print" option for 3D artwork. Or better yet, when we all have 2D/3D printers on our desktops and we can print anything we want.
Reason
ParticipantBeautiful artwork, especially the paintings. I'll definitely be off to DeviantARt to check out some of your other stuff.

ParticipantWow, really great stuff! I've always thought that AnimeStudio had a lot of potential for this kind of thing, so it's great that you're going with it and using it to bring your ideas to life.
