ParticipantIt's not. :'( :'( :'( :'(
I'm not going to read the series. I have a sad feeling they're doing it to avoid any legal disputes that might arise from Kirby's family down the road.
It's an awful idea and part of what's making DC "The House of Awful Ideas".
Sadly, DC for me is really one of those things you know is going to end horribly, but you just can't help but watch it. Countdown is atrocious (poor, poor Mary Marvel), Death of the New Gods just makes ill.
One day, writers at DC (and Marvel, but DC wins hands down with the genocide that is Death of the New Gods) will learn that killing is not necessary for a good story. Sadly, it would probably take a drastic drop in sales for that to occur to them.

ParticipantTypical dc fashion. "Lets kill off al the charcters that aren't Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. Because if we kill one of those three it has to be in a twenty comic book series and they have to be the only one how dies so its more dramatic. I have another Idea lets say that this is it and their dead for good then dring them back the next week."

Probably why they decided to off the Fourth World. Superman fans no doubt know Darkseid and his cronies, but chances are the entirety of the mythology is not as well known. So it will rile up less people if people like Lightray, Black Racer, and Big Barda die.
…Didn't they promise only 3 deaths out of this Countdown thing, anyhow? Nice to see they can keep their word. A bunch of New Genesis New Gods, a handful of Darkseid's goons and certain other characters — whom I won't mention for spoilers' sake.

ParticipantNot going to spoil anything plotwise (crudtastic as it is), but at the end of Death of the New Gods #2, whatever genius writes the message to fans after the story (I could go look, but don't care much), was advertising the "Fifth World".
If that's supposed to soothe the fans (like myself) who find this whole storyarc to be lame, I hope more than myself find it an insult.

ParticipantNerd moment over. Has anyone else been checking out the new Gen13 lately? I realize this book's version of Fairchild is kind of lean, but I still like her 😀
And she wears a bra. What the heck. When did Fairchild start wearing a bra?! 😉

ParticipantActually there are two versions of Casssie Lang. Ones Is Marvel Adventures Avengers, and the other is the one from young Avengers in marvel's current reallity.
Those respective names being "Stinger" and "Stature", I believe.

ParticipantBecause Blue Beetle is a third-tier superhero whom everyone thought was a joke and had little respect for him besides a professional courtesy of him being a Justice Leaguer.
Despite no help from anyone, and no one taking him seriously, Blue Beetle managed to unravel a conspiracy, track it all the way back to the main headquarters of the conspiracy's perpetrator's and deduce the purpose of their organisation.
On his own.
And when he's faced with certain death, with no chance for escape, he's offered to join the conspiracy.
He turns them down.
I think that's a hero's death. 🙂
Good point.
He recites my favourite line for the whole mess that is Infinite Crisis — I think it's him, anyhow — regarding how everyone, even Batman, loves Wonder Woman.

ParticipantPicked up my comics today. I glanced at the new arrivals shelf and saw the novelization of DC's Infinite Crisis. Flipping through the pages I read, that Rampage buys it: She's zapped by Superboy Prime (AKA Super Plot Device) while she's battling Baron Blitzkrieg. I don't recall this scene in the actual comic and Rampage isn't listed among the official "dead" superheroes (but Baron Blitzkrieg is), but I wonder if the novel is supposed to be in continuity or not. Any comic/fmg fanboys who might confirm this?

I know Wikipedia isn't exactly a perfect source, but I don't remember seeing Rampage bite it either, and she's not listed on the dead/uncomfirmed/unknown/missing lists, so I'd assume she's still alive.
Unless they've changed that.

Participant… Huh?
How does going insane with jealousy and then doing a stupid kamikaze stunt to look like a hero make him a hero? I was disappointed because he died like an idiot.
I thought Blue Beetle died a hero, he got a good death.
Booster… not so much.
And we can now look forward to Darth Psycho-Skeets, the Anti-Monitor's mentor. 🙁
What? Died a hero? Max Lord shot him through the head. Remind me how that's dying a hero?
I haven't been happy with DCU for a long time. At least, I can say with 52, the awesomeness that is The Question is at least making SOMETHING read-worthy.
As for Skeets… wouldn't imprisoning BG's ancestor send Skeets back to the future? Damn time travelling paradoxes…

ParticipantIt was in Wizard Magazine. Wizard did a sort of "what if?" in regards to what an Ultimate DC comic line would be like. They had some artists redesign Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, The Atom, The Flash, Green Lantern, and the Teen Titans.
While I didn't like the storyline they proposed (such as the Amazons being evil and wanting to dominate the globe), the art is really interesting.

ParticipantThere was a fourth robin. That girl. ^_^
Stephanie Brown? She took over for Tim Drake temporarily before becoming Spoiler.
