ParticipantCool. Thanks for taking the time, mate.

ParticipantI too have spotted this. I end-up going into the address bar and deleting the address back to the "amaz0ns.com" bit, then hitting return/enter.
Yeah- I've done that. I was just wondering if that was how Lingster intended to have it set up, or if there was a missing or misdirected link somewhere…

ParticipantOddly enough, I don't really think of Sylph as a superhero. I suppose she is, though, given that she is (obviously) superhumanly strong (the super part) and unself-consciously good (the hero part).

ParticipantI'm one of the rare idjits that actually maintains more than one internet ID. The main one that I use here, stmercy2020, is linked to my gaming days and is an indication of just how much of a geek I am. I had a cyberpunk 2020 character once, a sniper, who was part of a (surprise) primarily solo strike team. The joke was that he was the merciful option because if he took you out it would be over before you knew it (a head shot from over 1500 meters is the sort of insane accuracy that can only be acheived with cybernetics and game mechanics) as opposed to the graphic and painful violence that would ensue if one of the others (most notably, the female full-'borg named Furie) got you.
My other name, used more frequently in business dealings, is a back-of-the-hand reference to my fascination with mythology and trickster tales. Coyote is one of the best known native American tricksters (along with Inktome, Wisadkejak, and others of their ilk), and Canis Latrans is the Latin name for a coyote. Once upon a time I was Coyote321 (there was already a Coyote with numbers 1, 12, 123, & 21 already taken) and so, when I needed to acquire another account with both letters and numbers, and I discovered that coyote had become that popular a screen name, I opted to switch over to the Latin. I never even bothered to check if any of the other numbers were used- I just stuck with 321 because I'd become so used to typing it.
And there you have it, kiddies- the saga of my names. Wipe the drool off of your desks, smooth the pillow-creases out of your cheeks, now, and wake up. It's your turn.

Very nice, oh Captain, My Captain.
Can't wait to see what else you've got planned… ;D

ParticipantJust realized- I have included a smoking character in one of my serial novels. Lisette Boudreaux, Phil's, Dicey's, and Dasia's grandmother of the calculating and scheming sort, is a smoker.

ParticipantHmm. An interesting question, Alex!
After careful pondering of the idea, I do not recall having a smoker in any of my stories. I would like to believe that that's because I write in the things that are most familiar to me, and as I am a professional vocalist, smoking would not be in that realm.
That is not to say that I have not smoked. I stopped for my health.
My mother would have beaten me to within an inch of my life if I had continued after she'd caught me. I started in fifth grade at the tender age of 10 (thanks to the neighbor next door–who by the way was an Olympic athlete in Women's hockey later!) and stopped about six months later. My mother had discovered a bit of ash stain on an article of clothing and whupped the truth out of me.
I was also encouraged not to spend time with that neighbor anymore, since it was getting me into trouble. (Since the aforementioned neighbor had also taught me how to box, and got me into several fights, well…you can imagine that Mom wasn't real pleased.)Anyhoo, would I make one of my characters smoke? I guess it would depend on the character, but I'm inclined to say no, simply because after studying voice in college and seeing ALL sorts of photographic and video demonstrations about what your throat looks like even after a short period of smoking, I would be rather grossed out.
(might I suggest: http://www.entusa.com/voice_box_cancer.htm just to see what I mean? Not a kick or a message, just interesting pictures. And the biopsy video is fascinating!)
Again though, I suppose it depends on the character. I'd never rule it out, because you know all our characters and stories ACTUALLY exist on some parallel universe, and we're only seeing it in the window in our minds š

Heh. I can't claim professional status anymore (only been paid to sing a couple of times; been paid to not sing on one memorable occasion, too) but my Mom was a medical doctor and I got to see all the pretty pictures of what happens to a smokers throat and lungs when she was studying for her exams many, many years ago…
And I actually ran several games over the years operating on the theory that all fictions exist concurrently and separately, with artists and dreamers having a sort of pinhole opening through which the alternities were witnessed. All good stuff until the barriers that keep things separate start to break down for one reason or another… ;D

ParticipantINTP, Architect as well. I don't think it's too far off, although I question the ability of Myers-Briggs type tests to accurately quantify subjective personality characteristics (I think these tests are largely designed by people who tend to value concrete data over squishy unmeasurables, and I think it tends to prejudice the results.)

Participant(I note, however, that Arial is still the default font for actual messages on the forum, while Times New Roman is used only for headlines, and that's not bad at all.)
Apparently the Arial font is only when you're actively replying/writing a message. It might be better to switch it back for message bodies at all times…
