ParticipantColette Dowling addresses alot of these issues, particularly the way society tends to repress the physical development of girls as they mature, in a book she wrote in 2001 called The Frailty Myth. In particular, she notes that at young ages, girls and boys perform on a par, but as it becomes important to be attractive to young men, girls start to perform less well in physical activities. Surprisingly, though, she posits that this hasn't always been the case- according to her research, this tendency towards a weak, frail female has been the result of, essentially, societal repression that really took off in the Victorian era. Whether you agree with her thesis or not, it's worth checking out.

ParticipantAs always, thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. It truly helps the creative juices knowing that someone out there is enjoying my goofy little stories. 😉
After all that damage, she's tried to make amends by leaving $20.
Well, Sylph tries to be a good girl. Sometimes the fix is a little beyond her means, though.
I wonder what'll happen if she goes dancing?
Oh dear, now you've given me an idea. I'll have to work that in… 😀
Next Sylph chapter probably in two days, unless I get really motivated. I'm really hoping to get Chapter Seven of Second Chance up tomorrow, though, so we'll have to see. At least I'm back home for a while and can get back to doing some writing without interruptions from screaming small ones every five minutes…

ParticipantCongrats on the 70,000, gettar! Very nice pic, too- I don't think I would want to meet her in the ring- or in a dark alley, for that matter… 😮
Maybe in a nice bar… 😉

ParticipantGood god, Ritz…..how drunk were you when you wrote that? And what were you drinking?
And can I get some? Please? ;D

ParticipantNow, finding a boyfriend/girlfriend during a story while dealing with the transformation… Now that would be something else.
Not quite sure how you mean, although I agree with your sentiment that BF/GF characters ought to provide more than gratuitous sex. Do you mean it would be interesting to have a character gain a SO while literally going hrough the whole clothes-ripping process? Or just more generally while learning to cope with an increasingly fragile world in a more long-term story, over a period of days, weeks, or even months?

ParticipantAwesome review, n_cluber. Many thanks! Some friends and I are headed out to see this on Wednesday (when it comes out in their tiny little suburb), so your review is welcome and timely.

ParticipantNext time, do you think you can put a line of blank space between each paragraph break when you write? It'll be easier and less intimidating to read.
HUA, as they say- Heard, Understtod, and Acknowledged. Your wish is my command. Thanks for the advice. 🙂

ParticipantYeah. Sylph does have her limits (as referenced briefly in "Morning Routine"), but those would mostly be found in a gym-type setting, something which I've been largley staying away from. Maybe in a later story…

ParticipantOops. Crap! Shelley on the brain.
To Shelley she had been both his beautiful queen and La Belle Dame Sans Merci.
This line should have read, To Shelley she had been his beautiful queen while to Keats she was La Belle Dame Sans Merci.
My bad.

ParticipantHow about making a forum thread (like an announcement or something that would stay on top) and list the links there?
