ParticipantI am not sure if I ever posted this one anywhere else before now. I will often go through a small pad (5" x 8" in this case) scribbling shapes and poses and tossing most of them out because I do not like the poses or the shapes. This one looked good enough that I decided to flesh it out (pun sort of intended). I like the proportions on the character. The head and face look as though they were an afterthought, and the arms are slightly out of proportion, but those are the only negatives in my mind. The small size of the pad is why the hands are missing. From the looks of it, this was some sort of take on a Batman-type of character (based on the cape and the design of the bikini bottom).

ParticipantYou keep drawing, I'll keep posting.
I second this! Although Jed's DA page got me to create an account so I could browse all of the artwork, and I am making sure to check it regularly. Lots of really great stuff and I'm still working my way through it, but don't slow down! I'd like for you to wring every last bit of awesomeness out of those hands before you're done. 🙂

ParticipantThe arm confused me a bit, perhaps because the elbow is hidden. That's a minor quibble and other than that I think it looks good, including the hair. But it never hurts to find out from other artists how they draw hair. I usually rough in the general outline, then add a few details. Many other artists seem to layer the hair in, or draw it in large 'strips' to build it up. What you did in that drawing doesn't look bad, and fits in nicely with the style that you're using.

ParticipantI like your artwork! I really love the first one, it's always fun to see an artist's concept sketches as he builds a particular drawing or scene.

ParticipantHis work is awesome. I love the sketches and loose linework in many of his drawings. At first glance it looks like careless scribbling or doodling, but the more you look at it the more detail and skill that you see in the shapes, line work, and shading/highlights. He is amazingly talented.

ParticipantI must say, I for one am glad you did. 😉
Thanks. 🙂

ParticipantTo be honest, I was a little worried all day as to what I'd find in reply to my post. :-[
Your post sounded like the point of view of someone who knows what he likes and does not apologize for it. I find that people who fit that description tend to enjoy more peace of mind than people who fight against themselves without having a good reason to do so. It takes a fair bit of introspection to get to that point, and it can be an uncomfortable journey. But the destination is a very nice place. It's always bright and sunny there. 🙂

ParticipantYou can also see it in some of the comic pages I drew a few years back. By this time I'd drawn a lot of muscular females (my 'mister E' phase had come and gone by then) but I wasn't particularly trying to draw muscular women for this comic. But this is about as 'skinny' as I will draw the female figure without making a distinct effort to make them look thin.
I will just post links, as the images are fairly large (800 x 1200).

ParticipantAnd some more…

ParticipantHrm, I just realized that I was drawing buff females before I was ever really trying to draw them. The explanation for that is easy, though. When I was learning about drawing and getting advice from other artists, nearly all of them suggested photo references for human anatomy. Some suggested x-rated magazines, but there was no way I was bringing nudie mags home, so I would get fitness and muscle magazines instead. And the women in those magazines, while still shapely and feminine, had clear muscle development and definition. The results, well…
