ParticipantIs it a common surname?
And how on earth do you pronounce Suomussalmi?According to population register center there are 2574 Kovalainens in Finland. So it's pretty common.
That might be difficult for English speakers ;D But anyway here are the principles http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/suomi/fon.html

ParticipantAnd for cpbell, I think she is Finnish-Swede and lives in Vantaa, which is in Southern Finland whereas Heikki Kovalainen has born in Suomussalmi which is located in other side of Finland so my guess is they are not related. Just a coinsidence that they have same surname.
Trash Boat
Participantaccording to the powerlifting articles I have read on her. she is.
Hmm I got curious. How much has she lifted?
Edit: By age 19 she had set eleven teenage world power lifting records in three weight classes and had recorded a 551 pound squat, a 275 pound bench press and a 518 pound deadlift in competition.
Well that's very impressive. Not the strongest though, but very very talented.

ParticipantA blog which starts with many of my favourite fbb's can't be bad. Kovalainen is one of the few rising Finnish stars, so all the best for her.
btw. she has a blog of her own in English http://evakovalainen.blogspot.com/

ParticipantI don't pretend to know many, if any, of the lifters you are writing about, Maitolasi, but your dedication to recording the details is to be applauded.
Well that's my point exactly here; trying to bring up something in which all are not so familiar with.

Well, that was it. Shame I couldn't import more visual material, but I guess this is better than nothing.
This year World champis will be as late as 17.11.2009-29.11.2009.

ParticipantIt was a bit disapponting not to see Nadezda Evstyukhina lifting. I have no indormation why she didn't participate but let's hope that she isn't injured. She would be needed in world champs to compete against likes of Cao Lei.
Alla Vazhenina – silver medalis in Beijing – was absent too. Although I don't know do Kazakhs participate here or in Asian championships.
Anyway the script for gold was clear from start to finish. It was all about the Russian, once again. This is really tough division there, because if all the lifters would have been able to participate here, Russian would probably have taken all the medals.
Natalia Zabolotnaya clearly followed her lifting plan and all of her lifts looked easy – if the competition would have been harder, she would most likely have done more.
The lovely Lidia Valentin was really good at snatch making her new record but the competition wasn't over yet. In clean and jerk she managed to do only one good lift and she lost her second position. Real shame, I wonder what went wrong.

11. 117 EFTYCHIA ANANIADOU 10/07/1987 GRE 74.34 83 100 183 15A bit off-topic but just crossed my mind, how Alla Vazhenina has unorthodox bodytype for olympic lifter; she is quite tall to be 75 kg lifter – 175 cm – and she seems to have long limbed bodytype. Usually this category lifter are about 160-168 cm tall. Interesting anecdote that she was Russian citizen, but often failed to attend Russian national team, so she changed to Kazakstan and took silver in olympics.
