yatzParticipant
But seriously, isn't "Yatz" and "Buff Babes" being repetitive when used in a single sentence?
Point taken… 😳 Thanks.
Your capacity for satire and capturing the likeness of the celebrity you're bestowing buffness upon is quite well honed.
You've got a real handle on making the flesh within the linework appear to have actual volume through shading.
That sort of shading blows my mind Yatz.
🙄 Oooh… There are some editors I'd love to see this…
Lois and Brian had me laughin' out loud.
Got some big plans for the Griffin clan – just have to generate some eating money, first 😀
yatzParticipantYou folks yakety-yakking about "who Wreck trusted" and his state of "emo" sound like a bunch of hens!
Damn right! Time for the cock to speak! So, here goes:
MuffinMan, I was a member of wreck's board for a long time, and I must say that my feelings about it – regarding Ed's behaviour – are very different. He was certainly more actively involved than the owner and moderators over here, and he did show a dictatorial streak at times, but not to the extent that it become a nuisance (the only nuiseance I remember from that time being the infamous Mr. Davis). I never felt he was pushing his art too much (again, that would be Mr. D), and you can't blame him for people using his work as avatars.
I can't really judge if he's suicidaly depressed or just "emoting" – whichever it is, I'm not sure the correct reaction at this time is to tell him "good riddance" (which is how your original post comes off to me as – though I would guess was not your intention). As for his art: personally, I don't like the "Wrecked" look, can't stand those mountains upon mountains of inhuman muscles and tits – and yet, I just couldn't take my eyes off his drawings; this guy is so talented, it just shone through in everything he did. If you look at his blog, see his more "conventional" work, you might see this for yourself.
Of course, as was mentioned before, there are so many more elements involved in "making it" in the industry – raw talent is just not enough. Again, I'm not sure about Ed's circumstances, but the fact is he's still stuck at his horrible job instead of living off his talent, which is obviously what he should be doing. This would make anyone depressed. I would tell him to be strong and keep working at it – if Tom Derenick gets to draw comic books for the big boys, no way in hell Ed Morges is not gonna get there too!
yatzParticipantI think BB has never gotten the respect she deserved, not even here. Remember, she was the original badass big girl, strong, aggresive, openly sexual (that tiny red bikini – the memories it brings back…). That gal looked like she could kick your ass, and then take you on the joyride of a life time. Definetly one of The King's finest creations. Too bad she was never used to her full potential – in the brave new world she helped usher in, she was just another strong girl; I always thought that her military background could have been used to much greater effect.
Her finest hour, I always thought, was in a John Byrne team-up with Superman (Action 592), where the two made porn movies (!) for an Apokolips creep-in-exile. She looked great in that book – perhaps the last good art by Byrne.
yatzParticipantummm… I have one quick question. Why was this pick posted in the superheroines area and not the muscle growth section. Don't get me wrong I love the pick I drew a couple of muscle bound Jessica rabbit picks myself about 12 years ago. But out of the three females depicted here not a single one is a superpowered heroine.
You're right, of course – at the time I just didn't know where to post. Maybe we should have a new section, for cartoon characters (could also be for manga/anima and anthromorphs).
As for Lois comics and stand-alones – definetly planned, though it will take time (at least the comics, anyway).
yatzParticipantFair and simple enough–it sounds like you just don't like his own writing (Shanna) and his interpretation of Millar's scripts (Marvel Knights: Spider-Man).
I am a great fan of Cho's. I liked Shanna the She-Devil for what it was (an excuse to draw his obviously beloved dinos and jungle babe)–I wasn't expecting Shakespeare (or insert a more appropriate comic book writer's name of your choice), so I wasn't disappointed in any way. I also liked those MK: Spider-Man issues (and only bought them because Cho drew them).
Do you think you would like Cho's interpretation of a Dan Slott She-Hulk script better because he'd presumably draw a buff(er) woman than appeared in any of his Mark Millar-written work? You got me on the ropes here, pardner. I can't really say what it is I disliked about Cho's work on these books, though you do narrow it down pretty good. When I think about it some more, too much of Slott's She-hulk is static, relying on dialog, and that would not play to Cho's strengths. He has much more of a feel for action – which brings me back to Shanna. Like I said, I didn't like the "story", and I had a problem with the art – but I did like the b&w portions that went around at the time, and I loved the b&w Cavewoman stories I saw… Not to mention all of that b&w illustration stuff – Princess of Mars, Tarzan etc. Maybe it's just a question of waiting for the right colorist, or maybe he should stick to black and white… Just a thought.
Anyway, I feel that if God hadn't wished us to talk thru our asses and make not-fully-thought-thru, snide remarks about people ten times more talented than ourselves, he wouldn't have given us internet forums – so there! 👿
yatzParticipantI dunno – this drawing has started something for me. I wasn't totally happy with it – I should indeed (as AlexG hinted) should have gone with Honey Bunny instead of Daisy, and Jessica lacked some arm definition; but I felt I really bungled Lois Griffin – my (and BTX's) favorite American mother. Also, I saw Atariboy's work, and an idea was planted. So, here is a teaser – the first frame in a short strip I'm working on. Keep tuned…
yatzParticipantThing is, I can't really put my finger on the problem. If you've seen "frank Cho Illustrator", you know how much he's capable of as an artist. He does great action figures, and Shanna was great in that respect, but the story – what there was of it – really sucked; the other books – too static, just not interesting enough visually. Maybe the not-too-exciting coloring added to my bad feeloing about them. And I was thinking She-Hulk not so much because of the humor background, as the fact he draws amazingly gorgeous – and, when needed, buff – women.
yatzParticipantWhat do you mean?
Hmmm… At the risk of making you meaner: I didn't like it, I didn't like the work I saw on Marvel Knights, I thought Shanna was a waste of time. The guy is incredibely talented, I love Liberty Meadows and I think his B&W drawings are outstanding – but I just don't think his style works in a mainstream supewrhero setting. His covers are very good, though, and I do hope to see him on She-Hulk – I believe he will fit Dan Slott's style.

(UPDATED w/ Page 7!) #21353yatzParticipantOutside of C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhauser gate, I think I've seen just about everything – but the thought of that rack growing any larger :-o… Man, I'm scared. Please be gentle with us, Dave.
yatzParticipantGreat work, Scat. Looking forward to the next installments.
One (constructive) complaint:
Using split panels is effective when you want to show movement, change. Here, on the second page, when you split those two panels of the girl taking off her shirt, no such purpose is served, as there is no change within the split panels – all you do is spoil the view of that magnificent body :x! Definetly a major no-no. -
