Thanks big Z. I could not remember the issue numbers. You’re better than me on that.
I like the concept of a She-Thing and Sue is drawn fairly sexy in both cases.
I wish they drew Ms. Marvel II sexier than a Ben Grimm with boobs.
DC’s Brickhouse was big and buff and sexy but the same depressive wonks as Ms. Marvel.
DC’s Donner was drawn really muscular but always hidden!!! They never showed her enough and portrait her as a lesbian! 🙂Donner was a fantastic character with the DC Imprint Shadow Cabinet. A mainstream female muscle superhero. She was definitely large and in charge! I cannot remember the original artist off-hand but he did a great job on her. Unfortunately, they slimmed her down in later series for some unknown reason (to me anyway).

You’ve gotta be kidding me, how could you not heard of them?
The Elfquest graphic novel series has only been around since the late 70s.
Therefore, for your edification and enlightenment . . .

ElfQuest rocked!
I finally had to stop buying it when the storyline kept branching into multi-titles and the continuity didn’t seem to be there anymore. :/

I have the Polaris issues somewhere in storage. I remember in X-men her power was stolen and her genetic code revamped itself and gave her super strength. Sue turned in a thing during Reed’s absent storyline and with the reappearance of the Submariner in the group. She first appeared as a somewhat busty/buff She-Thing in a strapless bathing suit and thigh high heeled boots in an issue of Excalibur during the “the Cross Time Caper” storyline. There’s a story in one of the X issues where a woman gets bigger and stronger when Havok uses his powers on her.
To specify each of Ashlee’s points (and she’s got a great memory):
The storyline where Polaris had her magnetic powers stripped by Zaladane was in Uncanny X-Men #250. She somehow acquired super-strength, invulnerability, and height (later revealed to be from the Shadow King although I never understood how that worked out – they sort of blurbed over that little fact). Somehow she triggered anger in others which made others around her act wild, also. In the initial issue she didn’t have any muscle at all. She appeared next in X-Men #253 but again no muscle although she is depicted with some on the cover. In issue #254 she’s finally drawn with some muscles as she takes on the Reavers. What’s strange is that all of these issues were drawn by Marc Silverstri, no consistency at all! These issues seem to be the C-List of X-Men characters. She continues to pop in and out of the next dozen or so issues as Marvel was breaking in Jim Lee on the title. She lost her muscles and those powers in one of the multi-part 1992 Annuals involving the Shadow King and his minions.
I explained the Sue-Thing in my previous post.
Ashlee is 100% on the first appearance of a Sue-Thing (other than the comical What If? issue around Vol. 2 #33). It was in Excalibur #14 on page 20. She’s sort of a funky She-Thing. You’d have to see it to believe it.
The storyline involving Plasma from Marvel Comics Presents #24-31 was covered in an earlier post. Havok’s powers did indeed power up Plasma who is the niece of the Living Monolith.
A little long winded I seem to be, young Skywalker. 🙂
We both seem to have read the same books, Ashlee. We seem to be the resident brain trusts for Silver/Bronze Age comics’ history. 😀

That sucks, Im also looking for when Sue became the thing..I have no idea when that happened…
Fantastic Four #403 & #404 where Sue and Llyra (along with the Kristoff Dr. Doom) are turned into replicas of the Thing by some pseudo-Inca device. The women are drawn Thing-size with the appropriate amount of muscles. They actually had more muscle than I would’ve expected from a mainstream comic but then they became the “villains” of the two-part storyline so it’s okay from the Marvel standpoint.
Paul Ryan did the artwork on the issues and it looks good, IMO.

ParticipantYeah, those pics of Polaris were from her days in X-Factor. They were drawn by Jan Dursema (sp). I know that I’m messing the name up. Jan always drew her with a muscular physique (at least for female heroines for Marvel). They were around X-Factor Vol. 1 #90 or so. My favorite issue was where Doc Samson analyzed her.
I know the Frenzy issues you’re thinking of but I’m drawing a blank on exactly which ones. :/
I used to have that issue of Marvel Year in Review with Polaris in that swimsuit but I sold it on eBay a couple of years ago. I did put it on my DA account but they wiped out all the comic pages of femuscle that I had on there. Btw, if anyone downloaded any of those could you e-mail me with them? DA really cheesed me off because of that. Actually, someone probably notified them is what happened. ::sigh::

ParticipantRobb needs to do more buffed versions of heroines and villainesses! The ratio is way out of kilter. 🙂

I’m currently looking for the issue where the mutant “frenzy” grows muscles, I believe she is absorbing something or other. Would anyone know which book that’s from?
I believe that was from her first appearance in X-Factor Vol. 1 #4. There was another mutant who could enhance other mutants powers. I recall that she got strong but I do not remember if she grew bigger muscles. She was in X-Factor #4-6 with her original group, the Alliance of Evil. Jackon “Butch” Guice drew those first few issues (give or take).
Hope that helps. Perhaps you could look at the web site that was mentioned earlier to confirm or deny what I’ve told you here.

They were counting Plasma to be a hit they even had a trading card of her with BIG muscled arms, Badly handled
If they were counting on her being a hit, they should’ve put her first appearance into one of the X-Men books. I didn’t like the pacing of the storyline. I guess that I hated waiting a month at a time for an 8 page chapter that spanned 8 months total. ::sigh::

Plasma started out with great promised and just turned to garbage
You’re absolutely right, Ashlee. She was drawn with muscles very nicely by Rich Buckler from the storyline in Marvel Comics Presents #25-31 (she first appears in #28). However in her next (and currently last) appearance in Moon Knight Vol. 3 #25 she was drawn by Mark Bagley as a skinny model type which greatly disappointed me and a vast majority of folks on this site. :/
Apparently killed at the end of that issue, she has not appeared since although you can’t keep a good villain down. I’m surprised that nobody has brought her back since they’ve brought back many others that I don’t really care about.
