    There are quite a few artists who sell prints of their work through dA, though I don't know how lucrative it is.

    It is an interesting and thoughtful question, in fact I know the mouth of artists of all kinds.

    I do know most of the artists I work with have DA pages, and Ive found them to work with my through DA (so thats one way theyve used that site to make money).  Also, many of them advertise they will draw for commission, which people can ask them to draw something for a price.  Add those to the selling of the prints already mentioned, and Id say yes, a good artist can certainly make money from DA.

    I've made some money from commissions, after advertising that I was doing them in my journal there.
    Prints have never made much money for me on there- about enough to sustain a deviantArt subscription.

    The key is to operate your deviantART site as a referral source rather than a direct revenue source.  So if you're looking to make money as an artist, it's become something akin to the Yellow Pages for that trade.

    I've gotten a few commissions from dA members, so yeah, there's some money to be made.  Forget about selling prints, though; despite the number of people who've requested that this or that pic be made available as a print, I haven't sold a single one in over 2 years of activity.
