ParticipantAwesom Deunan. As much as I love Shirow's work I wish she looked like this.

ParticipantThat's quite the impressive pic. If only every girl in an anime looked like that… 😉

ParticipantThank you sirs. I wholeheartedly agree, Deunan looks cool buffed. I still commend Shirow-sensei for still muscling his lovely ladies though, it's a brave move for a mainstream artist. And more amazing for being able to pull it off. I still hear of some whines about how Deunan "had shoulders like a man" in the movie. Oh well. *shrug* She still kicked a lot of arse xD

Ah, the whiners (and haters) they're just jealous that they don't look even half as good as she does . . . 😉
I'll sign her up in an instant for my Archonial Guard Legion . . . ;D

ParticipantAwesome, Mikazuki! I'm a huge Appleseed fan, too. I thought it'd be appropriate to quote from a previous post about Appleseed:
Appleseed by Masamune Shirow
When it comes to depicting the female figure in delicious manga form, all must acknowledge the prowess of Masamune Shirow (?? ??). Shirow-sensei has always been very liberal with his female muscle in his works. Some of the earliest examples of this can be found in Appleseed Volume 3. There are a few panels in the book which are pretty good, and the last panel with Deunan Knute and Hitomi working out is one of my all-time favorite pics. Enjoy.
There's another panel in the manga when she's taking out a squad of soldiers in combat training and she keeps a kill count on her arm. As she crosses off another kill, you can see a noticable bicep there. I'll see if I can dig it up.

ParticipantDeunan is one wicked knife fighter! Not like those pansies in American comics.

Thank you, Elee-san! Yep, I love those, they almost single-handedly got me hooked on Appleseed. And I know exactly the panel you're talking about. That one is probably my favourite, because that whole training sequence was hilarious, what with those silly signs.

Yep, Deunan can do some pretty funky stuff. Although I wouldn't go too far in bagging the US comics, um, yeah, there's a lot of comics fans here *laughs* And I'm not sure, but I think there's been quite a bit of osmosis between western and eastern comics, and the western comics are better at depicting action now.

ParticipantI actually enjoyed the original ova animation alot more than the new computer rendered anime movie, the artwork in the new anime is alot better than the original ova but I enjoyed the story of the first anime alot more 🙂

They still can't knife fight for crap. I read this recent Green Arrow issue. Those knife moves were sad. Deunan can show them how it's really done.
