Figured this would be a suitable board for such a discussion…

Sure, there's plenty of strong, physically-powerful female heroes out there… but how often do you see them drawn with a build something other than the typical woman in any other panel of their comicbooks? Not that bloody often, huh?

I think part of the reason muscular female characters like WonderWoman, She-Hulk, etc. are so uncommonly drawn as muscular has to do with the belief that visibly-strong women are unfeminine and thus would be unappealing to the general fanbase.

However, in many circles I've been in (our own community here included), the exact opposite is true – many fans think a female showing a display of strength and self-reliance is a very empowering trait that enhances the character's womanly appeal, and they dislike seeing strong women portrayed with merely average physiques, possibly due to it spoiling the whole suspension-of-disbelief aspect of their superhuman strength.

Well, I've given my proverbial pair of coppers… what opinions/commentaries do you guys have about women, comics, and muscles (or lack thereof)?

I'm planning a superteam comic featuring a woman built like the friggin' Juggernaut. What do you think I think? 😉

Seriously, as amusing as that previous statement is, it actually has quite a bit to do with my opinions on this topic. Miss Mass's…well, mass is only partially due to my love of femuscle. I was so annoyed with different artists drawing the same characters with varying physiques that I wanted to create a female character so insanely buff, and make her physique so integral to her character, that every artist who drew her would have no choice but to make her outstandingly muscular.

(And then I created Howard Power to further screw with the comic-build cliches. :D)
