    Artist Bio from his site at http://www.jedsart.com./main.htm

    Jed Dougherty has been creating art for about 15 years, with an emphasis on figurative work. He graduated in 1992 from the College of Creative Studies at UCSB with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art.

    His paintings and sculptures are primarily depictions of women, concerned with creating images of female power, as expressed through physical mass and energy. There is a fantastic or surreal element to many of his paintings, reflecting his interest in mythology and odd juxtapositing.

    His imagery is inspired by a number of sources, from the physical exaggerations of ancient goddess images, to the burlesque allegories of classical figurative painting, to the comic-book physiques of female bodybuilders.

    Jed's artwork has been shown in several galleries in Santa Barbara, among them the Channing Peake, Ro Snell, Delphine, Faulkner and Arts Fund galleries. He maintains a small studio space in Thousand Oaks.

    Awards:

    2nd Place: Santa Barbara Sculptors' Guild 2002

    1993 Individual Artists Program – Honorable Mention, Works on Paper

    Honorable Mention: National Arts Recognition and Talent Search, 1988, conducted by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.

    Scholarship from the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation's Fine arts Scholarship Competition, 1988.

    In statewide competition received one of four tuitions to attend (and did attend) the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation's Summer Seminar 1987, in Colorado Springs.

    Received $1500 renewable Fellowship from the College of Creative Studies in the College of Creative Studies 1987 UCSB Undergraduate Fellowship and Prize Competition.
