ParticipantWhile this may shock and amaze miss pixxxie here, and possibly a few others I'm actually a fully functioning adult with a job 😮 Seriously, I don't need you to randomly lecture me over our economy (which isn't a pure capitalism by the way). Believe it or not, I do pay for things – Food, gas, clothing, etc. I didn't come in here with the intention of trying to impose my views on anyone, just to answer the thread's original question. I shouldn't have responded to the initial "flames" if you will.
No, it isn't about guilt or being outnumbered, it's the fact that I won't change my views based on what you say, and the same probably applies for you. From this point forward, I won't be responding to any posts not related to the main point, I come to this forum to discuss the fetish, not get into arguments about economics/the law, and I apologize for offending anyone by not spending money. (As silly as that sounds, I'm serious)

ParticipantDeadly PixxxIe – Your incensed posts are completely, and needlessly offensive. Any discussion on this topic can be done without resorting to name calling, outrageous assertions in another person's character, and belligerent bossing.
Just because the urchin stole less or for a different reason, or because the police or prosecuting authority might decide to let him go, doesn't mean he didn't steal. The desert of punishment is immaterial to the definition of the crime.
Hence, why I said "somewhat". Obviously, the punishment doesn't completely define the crime, but it does to an extent.
You're right. It isn't larceny. It's intellectual property infringement, which is actually quite a bit more serious. Larceny is the taking of physical property, that is, someone's chattels. Intellectual property is the right to profit from and distribute one's own work. When you copy a DVD, you're not "stealing" the movie itself, but you are infringing on the creator's right to distribute his own work as he sees fit, a right granted and protected by law.
Yeah, absolutely.
Basically, piracy is a lot like eating meat. The more faceless the cow, the less you care.
I eat meat – but if I had to kill and skin the animals myself, I'd never end up eating meat. By the same token, it's easier to pirate from say, Warner Bros, than it is to pirate from a self-employed free lancing comic artist who publishes his comic through cafepress.com.

.I can't believe that you'd actually defend him on something like this. And you have no clue what I've gone through with via my own personal experiences of having my personal artistic material stolen or how I deal with people who do this…or what I've gone through, so maybe you should just hush up. Full stop. End of discussion.
Hush up and let me and the thief deal with this.

Participant*whew everybody please step to neutral corners*
I'd just like to give a couple of my own opinions.
Like I said earlier in this thread, I own my own company and not getting paid sucks. There are some things you can do to get money from dead beats, but there is nothing in the world like getting some sort of idea or art stolen. I have been through that. If people only knew the sort of investment people put into writing in general and especially music. I have more respect for good song writers than novelist, why? Because its so hard to write a good song. I wrote a good song once(and I do mean once) and a guy who left the band I was in stole it and used it as his new band's opening song for something like 3 years. There was not a thing I could do about it. And that didn't involve much money because we were all broke at the time. I can only imagine if there had been real money involved. I might be in prison, but enough of that topic…
Now for Mangus… there is something to be said for sticking to your guns, but don't try to get around what piracy is. I do understand that corporations rule the entertainment industry, but there are a lot of regular people who work for those companies. When you steal a DVD or CD, they don't fire the big wigs, they fire the secretary or the receptionist who has 3 kids and needs the insurance. I tend to look at companies from the bottom up instead of the top down. Just remember the delivery guy and the security guard, or the maintenance guy next time.

ParticipantI am Magnus Knight, not to be confused with the thrifty guy listed above.
I just wanted to clear that up, incase anyone out there could possibly confuse us.
Not that being thrifty is bad, but copyrighted material should be respected.
