It's terribly difficult for us (students!) who live nowhere near that little corner of the island.
If one was arranged more central, I'm pretty sure I'd go (and probably drag Drumstick Master with me as he is also a member here but.. quiet about it).But aye London? Too difficult for me :/ tho if the venue does change I'm gonna be more free to go after September.

Actually… North to South is easy, it's East to West that's harder and really if you don't have a car it's going to cost you a pretty penny to get to Londonium… of course, I've no real idea of the distribution of people in the forum who are in the UK.

I'm in Norfolk, and, though the lack of a motorway is great because it stops the place from being one huge trading estate, like Reading/Slough/Basingstoke, it makes travel difficult, even if you're more independent than I am.
August 29, 2007 at 7:44 pm #56702FettParticipantIsn't there something called Frappr? It's where you sign in and state where you're from and it has a little tag on a map. We could try that to find a centralised place that's more amenable for people to get to.
I'm up for meeting but I already tried this for August and not one person replied to even say that they couldn't make it. :/
August 29, 2007 at 7:45 pm #56703LingsterKeymasterI thought you Brits were all about the trains?
Also, you're not going to get much sympathy from us Americans, because we often have to travel hundreds of miles for fairly minor purposes. Our highways are good but every other option is shit:
- Airports are hellish since 9/11
- Passenger trains are not reliable and don't cover very much of the country, anyway
I generally don't fly unless I have to travel 500 miles or more; while it's cheap in dollars but expensive in human misery. Medium-distance (<400 miles) bus travel seems to be increasing in popularity in the U.S., though. Especially as concerns the so-called "Chinese buses".
Isn't there something called Frappr?
There's actually a Google Maps plugin I could set up here. Didn't think anyone would be interested.

You are kidding Lingster?! They're famously c*** ever since they were privatised. Anyway, I'm reliant on my family for transport, and, as I haven't plucked-up the courage to tell them yet (circumstances at the moment are not conducive) I couldn't attend such an event anyway, no matter how much I'd love to.

Sure! I at least would be interested.
I compete in Orienteering and recently saw a map like this showing the distribution of Orienteerers in the US and it was at the very least informative and definitely interesting to see where the highest concentration was centered. Orienteering in the US is very much like FBBs and FMG in the world, there aren't many of us and we're mostly unknown, although the sport isn't looked down on by the rest of the world like FBBs and FMG…

Geek.

Three options – 1) Lie. 2) Get the train (which shouldn't pose too much of a problem with your chair) and have someone pick you up. 3) Have someone drive to your house.

1. My family have the best in-built lie detectors EVER.
2. Trains round here are tricky, and I still live about 10 miles from Norwich Thorpe station.
3. Most cars won't take me and my wheelchair.Maybe some day… ::)
