April 17, 2006 at 4:38 pm #26548Mark NewmanParticipantI warned you, Jimmy.
It's one thing to write a sequel to a finished story but you're writing your own very different story in the middle of mine.
Let's just make it clear to the readers: Jimmy's story is completely separate from mine. I haven't approved it. I haven't disapproved it. I have asked him to use a different school and different characters from mine. What he does with it is up to him.
April 17, 2006 at 5:01 pm #26549suprwmnParticipantSimply excellent, Mark. I can't wait for Friday!!
April 17, 2006 at 5:31 pm #26550JimmyDimplesParticipantSorry, Mark, but there's something I don't follow here.
At first you opened up the story with Marylin's E-mail box, and asked the forum at large to put in their input, ask their questions, and gave us all the chance to join the story in the school somehow. Many of us did. I took you up on this with a will, and came up with all sorts of stuff that, according to a good number of others, wasn't exactly junk.
Then I took the ball and ran with it. Now you're asking me to totally upend it, warp it, and negate the whole thing that you invited us to join in the first place?
I'm definitely not messing with the principal characters in the original story. I've given them a wide berth.
I definitely don't want a feud or flame war to break out over this. But I have the feeling that I'm getting the "you need to diet" treatment from someone who invited me down to the buffet in the first place. 🙁
April 17, 2006 at 5:53 pm #26551Mark NewmanParticipantI certainly am not going to enter a flame war on this or anything else.
Jimmy is free to post his own stories.
Let's just be clear that his story has nothing to do with mine. He might blow up the school in his story. It will still exist in mine.
As for Marilyn's email box, I have taken ideas from other contributors to the email box and incorporated them into the story. I told Jimmy that his ideas were not compatible with my plot but that he could pursue him on his own. They're not junk, but they are very different from mine. I did ask him to do so in another "school", so that his plot did not interfere with mine. He wasn't able to do that. OK. I had to accept that. It is his own story.
And that is all I have to say on the subject.
April 17, 2006 at 6:05 pm #26552JimmyDimplesParticipantI've got to say this last bit, though.
I thought I had said earlier I had decided against that one, Mark. Out of deferrence to you.
I'm sorry, but I had given a wider and wider berth to his characters. No interaction at all. Okay, there was Principal Gregg, but the interaction was minimal.
I was told it was a big school, and I assumed there would be room for both of us. Turned out that was false.
What makes me unhappiest here is that I was under the impression that a person that was made a Marknew story character would still have his free will and affect the plot, though the Author would do his bit, too, throwing curve balls.
But that turned out to be false, too. Apparently now the Author wants to do his bit and be totally free of any and all consequences that are not in his will. Apparently the home team also wants to be the referee, too.
There will not be a Jimmy Templeton Thursday Afternoon or any other stories in this vein. It's simply not fun anymore. 😥
April 17, 2006 at 8:25 pm #26553alexParticipantJimmyDimples,
Pendent Changes is a Marknew story. He needs creative freedom to write the story as it unfolds in his head, without any outside restriction.
If you want to write about Friday, Saturday or 3 years past that, you're free to do so, but it would be based on your version of his story, which could largely diverge from his. That's ok too. I see many people write stories based on universes created by other writers and mold it to their preferences. Mark himself did this when he wrote a story based on Superfemme world (Little Big Daddy II) and completely distorted the spirit of the world the original author tried to show us, and even added superman into the twist. Helplesscase did the same with his Superfemme chronicles, but in no way are his stories any worse because of it.
Even if Marks goes overboard and Cindy ends up blowing up the world, your story could still be based on the basic premiss of the Pendand changes world in a "what if" scenario.
April 18, 2006 at 9:10 am #26554minimanmaxParticipantAll right. I know that this thing is probly settled. Now we all know this is a Mark Knewman story so he dose have that last say. However he did open it up with the Miss Knewsome e-mail box. So that brings in a lot of people's idea of where they would like to see the story go. So I'd say next time some one dose that make it clear that you know where you'd want you stories to go.
Now Mark how about you do a quick mention of a shooting in like the morning news in your story on the morning of friday sence the two stories are running paralle to each other and happen in differant schools. I won't effect the others story line and I think that that would make every one happy.
I'm sorry if I sound rude for mentioning this.
April 18, 2006 at 6:51 pm #26555Warren VehecParticipantMark,
Your continuation of the Pendant is simply awesome dude. Can't wait to read the rest of it. Wow!!!
Jimmy,
Where's your version of the story posted at? I'd love to read it.
Warren
