I think I sweated over this page more than any other page that I can recall. For example: The woman in the background in Panel 4 (looking in shock'n'awe at Janet as she weighs in) was completely drawn and fully colored when I decided that I'd done an awful job on her. So she got redrawn and recolored. (And I'm still not happy with the last two panels, especially Amanda's profile in panel 5; but for now, I'm leaving it alone.)

If I had to pick one thing to complain about though (and you can choose whether to take this seriously or not…) is that if th woman is saying they vote purely on the muscle…she doesn't really look like she has much to worry about in terms of size…beauty, yeah, Janet's -mooooooooooooore- than a competitor for that, but muscle and size (and I guess maybe even definition), not so much…
just pointing out something I kinda noticed, but I love it nonetheless!…sorry if this discourages you or something…
Thanks very much!

Actually, that's precisely why Holly made the comment… she didn't think (yet, because she hadn't seen Janet's physique) that because the judges vote "on pure muscle", she (Holly) had anything to worry about. Of course, once Janet doffed her sweats for the weigh-in, Holly's perception changed radically; if I'm "discouraged" about anything, it's that I may not have portrayed Holly as sufficiently awed (and worried) by Janet's conditioning. (Amanda, yes, she's a bit of a babbler…)
December 8, 2005 at 12:54 am #19102fasolaParticipantAmazing, as allways dave.
and about what Holly says, I understood exactly what you said Dave. She was confident because she thought that janet had won only because of looks, and not because of size and definition.
Your style has evolved a lot dave, I feel that you have achieved a serious pro level, mainstream level. I mean, you could actually draw for major publishers. Not only because the style, but also because you manage to express all the feelings the characters have in onr drawing, that's is more important than the way one draws, at least for me. Keep it up man.
December 8, 2005 at 6:47 pm #19103AlexGKeymasterExcellent work and Satin is just simply Supergal-ish looking, too. 😎
BTW – Is it just me, or does the weighing-in official bear more then a little resemblance to a certain artist . . . 😉

No, that's not me, if that's what you mean. The guy I drew is like 6' 3" and 249 of mostly muscle, a former bodybuilder. I'm 5' 10 1/2" and the only thing that keeps me from being the proverbial "98-pound weakling" is that I weigh (considerably) more than 98… When the story finally moves to the evening show, look for me in the audience 😉

It's brand-spankin' new; just uploaded last night. Glad you like it.
December 9, 2005 at 9:45 am #19107DavidParticipantBeautiful page. With the woman you're unhappy about something I like is the clown faced look I so often see with women at contest who tan their body and don't bother with their face. They use so much 'colorizer' on their body that their faces look pale.
