I gotta back up Strawberry on this one.  I'm in this for the reading and the forum.  And I'd been logging in from the office at work from time to time.  The salacious ads on the http://www.amaz0ns.com site proper is not something I need or care to see.

Yes, they're ads. I don't know who started this "pop-up" stuff, but there are no pop-ups on this site and no one complained about them. This means that your pop-up blocker will not block the ads. I have a pop-up blocker at work because they don't want us being asked to download things, plus I think they're paranoid that a virus will be transmitted via pop-up. If they were pop-up ads, you wouldn't hear any complaints from me because I wouldn't see them…I almost wish they WERE pop-ups just so they wouldn't show up all over my work page.

"Oh, just stop complaining and check them at home." That is a solution, but I like checking the forum and I usually don't get home until late and my internet is flighty. Since I wasn't the only one with this problem, I decided to post it.

But the reason I posted this was to see if the majority of you think it's a problem at all and let the mods decide. If most of you prefer this location, didn't like the last, or just don't care, then keep it here, no big deal. No reason not to do what the majority wants…the majority matters more than a few people complaining in this non-critical situation.

I honestly think that you guys might be a little too narrow-minded on the subject. Lingster is just trying to broaden his forum up to a larger audience and bring together the lovers of all odd-ball female fethishes. It may be a little annoying to have to go through a million boards. But I welcome it if it's going to bring us some more artists and/or authors.

Agreed and seconded – the Immortal One.  😎

The Pimp must fall into agreement with Maniac, David and Alexander.
There is nothing wrong with these forums.
If you have problems with the inbedded advatisements of the host site (Amaz0ns), then book mark the Forum and they shall not be a hinderance.
If you do not like the new opitions, galleries and posting threads, then do not use them.
Life is as simple as that.

I've disabled the one banner ad that I consider to be "salacious" and I've moved the Adbrite ads further down the page, and to the right column.  Only Google AdSense ads are enabled on the Forum, and Google censors those for content.

If you've got a problem with me having any ads at all here, well, that's too bad.

She Grew! remained commerce-free simply because it was something I created on a lark and never expected to turn into the behemoth that it did.  As it got bigger it has come to consume more of my time and resources, so I have moved it within a content site that I can manage in an organized fashion.  The whole Amaz0ns installation is about me trying to build a wall around all the services I provide at no cost.

The ads you're griping about gross less than $200/month, which covers direct costs and my expenses, and puts a few bucks in my pocket.  The last-most helps me convince myself that the very substantial effort involved in this undertaking is not a total loss.

What ads are you guys seeing??? I see no ads whatsoever, popup, popunder or otherwise, here at the boards, and only the ad at the top (just under the title graphic) on the main Amaz0ns site that seems to alternate between "Misty Anderson" and "Images of Venus". Yeah, I'll concede sometimes those can push that "work-safe" line, but I'm not seeing the overwhelming numbers of salacious porno ads that are plaguing you ("you" meaning everyone who's commented on the ads). Maybe they only show up on Windows?…

I've heard about this phenomenon called "adware" that apparently (if I understand it correctly) opens popups on your screen even when you're not surfing. I wonder if what's happening is that whoever programmed the adware (and therefore must die a slow agonizing death) has somehow tagged "Amaz0ns" to trigger ads to show up whenever the browser visits the site. I can't think of any other reason why some, like Strawberry and Jimmy, are seeing these ads while others like me aren't. (But then, what I know about programming web sites and such could be fit into a thimble and still leave room for your finger…)

UPDATE: Okay, I'm starting to see some text ads below some of the posts, and at the top of the page. Still nothing that should cause any trouble in a workplace or other sensitive area… and I've gotten to where I ignore text ads almost entirely.

My issue is the URL. Why amaz0ns.com? It's so confusing with the ever popular bookstore Amazon.com.  The difference between "o" and "0" is too close. Certainly a better domain name could have been created.  🙁

    Lingster,

Don't sweat it.  Take it from someone who has built numerous web communities and businesses, you can never make everyone happy all the time.  The fact is, you've built a fantastic commnunity and probably make little to no money doing it.  Take complaints in stride, and know that the majority support what you do, and appreciate it greatly.

I bookmarked them since I first found out the site had moved and nothing ever changed.

I don't. It's the sex ad stuff. It's the porn ads. The banners of scantily clad women asking me to click on them for a good time. Have all the ads you want, but I'd prefer not to see any ads for wrestler phone sex.

I'm getting a real "like it or screw you" attitude from you, which is fine if you didn't create a forum because you wanted feedback. If you don't want people telling you what changes they think would help the site, then remove this section of the forum.

Hmm…that's certainly an interesting point but I think calling it amaz0ns has a different meaning, which is why I never thought of it this way. If I were to say "Amazon" to someone, they'd think about the book website or the jungle or maybe even the women, but if I say "Amazons" there's no confusion as to what they'll think about. Does that make sense?

I'm getting a real "like it or screw you" attitude from you, which is fine if you didn't create a forum because you wanted feedback. If you don't want people telling you what changes they think would help the site, then remove this section of the forum.

For future reference, when people use the word "Feedback," it generally means they're looking for constructive criticism.  You titled this thread Anyone Else Hate This New Location? and started another one called Too Freakin' Specific.  Those aren't very constructive titles, so you'll forgive me if I conclude that your intent wasn't to engage in constructive dialogue.

I don't know what you're angry about, but if you thought you could be both obnoxious AND taken seriously, you were mistaken.  This isn't high school and I'm not your principal.  I'm a grown-up man with a job that doesn't involve looking after children, and I run this site on the side.  I demand a certain standard of conduct from people, and if they don't meet that standard, the nicest thing I do is tune them out.  Your life thus far may have taught you that "the squeaky wheel gets the grease," which is true in many cases.  But I'd also advise you that in many other situations, the squeaky wheel gets replaced.

When I set up an advisory board a month ago, I included you in it because you'd been posting quite a bit and brought a lot of energy to the forum.  I ran everything before the board before I did it – some things I told them I was going to do, other things I asked for advice about.  You never contributed a thing to that discussion, which is too bad because that was an opportunity to share your opinions in a way that could have influenced how all this turned out.  To share your opinions after the fact and in a nasty way, when you had the opportunity to do it beforehand and in a nice way, means that I'm not going to pay much attention to you.

This board has always had a small number of people who contribute in a positive way and a large number of lurkers who come by for the stories, art and links.  I run this board so that the former can post their material in a low-maintenance, high-reliability, confidential environment, and so that the latter have access to that material in similar fashion.  I can do this because I have been a contributor in this genre for a very long time – about as long as it has existed online – and so I am a trusted middleman.

You are entertaining, sexy and literate, and I suspect that you are a first-person FMG fetishist yourself.  I don't think I have done anything to make you feel anything but welcome here.  But that said, you have the same options here as everyone else: you can lurk, or you can be a positive contributor, or you can go away.
