KeymasterI could go either way on this. Never read the comics, saw the TV show in reruns. Might be good, might suck.

Britt Reid is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene — until his father mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato, they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. But in order to do this, they decide to become criminals themselves — protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets.
Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato’s clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case, they begin hunting down the man who controls LA’s gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky. But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.
The Green Hornet hits theaters on January 14th 2011.

Ya know, I’m in that same sort of quandry.
(Excuse me while I date myself)
I was a major fan of the TV show as a kid. It was right behind Wild Wild West for me. All the other kids were “biffing” and “zowieing” to Batman, but I love the Hornet. He had a cool style, partner, secretary and car. Ooooh, that car. :woohoo: After its run, I got acquainted with the serials and radio shows, thanks to Chuck Schaden with his old radio show Those Were the Days, here in Chicago.
You don’t know how bad I want this movie to succeed, especially after how they raped Wild Wild West on the big screen. The trailer shows potential with Kato, the action, the new Black Beauty and the homages to the TV show all through it. Even Michael Gondry as director. To me the weak link is Seth Rogan.
Rogan has shown in the past that he has only 2 characters he can reliably play, a drunk frat boy and a sober frat boy. The bits of him in the trailer show he may have a third, an attempting to reform frat boy.
The fact that Sony has given it a mid-January release date doesn’t bode well either.

ParticipantThis movie is definitely mine or your daddy’s Green Hornet Fan-boy
A Van Williams and Bruce Lee team they’re not. Not to mention That this guy’s portrayal may be spot on to all the newcomers, but he might have John Reed, Britt’s great grandfather who was the ORIGINAL Lone Ranger turning over with as dumb as he can act.
I like the car, I used to have the Aurora model (cost of $0.98 back in the day) along with the batmobile.
One more thing are they planning to work in the original theme to the “Green Hornet” by Al Hirt in to the movie. I remember seeing it done on live television. It’s the “Flight of the Bumblebee” done on trumpet. Fantastic finger movement.
But just remember This movie is definitely mine or your daddy’s Green Hornet Fan-boyJune 25, 2010 at 10:20 am #93442Paul Schilling
ParticipantOh! one more thing if you go to you-tube punch in either Al Hirt or Al Hirt Green Hornet you’ll hear the original theme… beats some of this rap-crap.

Actually, I’ve got a soundtrack album from the original series that was released in Japan. On it, Al Hirt does a couple of different version of the theme. One is the standard and the other is even more frenetic in its sound. Al Hirt was an unbelievable trumpet player.
As for the Black Beauty, I like that they decided to use a 64-66 Imperial, like the TV show, but I like the original better. It looked “custom”, this one looks “pimped” with the 20″ wheels and tons of chrome. I definitely don’t like the 2 whoppin’ huge machine guns coming out of the hood. They look stupid.
