…read a synopsis of the plot, I'm not too happy with some of the creative changes made to some parts of Trek history and I'm not even one of those rabid Trek fans.
So do Spock and Kirk turn out to be gay?
January 18, 2008 at 8:49 am #65933Delmo Walters Jr.ParticipantThe more I hear about this film, the less interested I am in seeing it. The Enterprise had been commanded by Robert April & Christopher Pike before Kirk came along so, it would already be in use while Kirk was in the academy.
And yes, I'm one of those rabid Trek fans.

I have to count myself as a keeper of Trek lore, but at this point I just want a good Trek movie. I can live with a change or two if the end result is a movie that's good.
January 18, 2008 at 9:12 am #65935TC2ParticipantThey're going to be changing quite a few things with the Star Trek stuff, to give it a reboot. Kind of like when they re-did Batman after Batman & Robin's spectacular flop. They want Star Trek to appeal to the "next generation" no pun intended, of new trekkies.
We'll find out if this works or not if the movie is any good.
January 18, 2008 at 9:46 am #65936FlakBaitKeymasterBy rabid I meant the "let's have a Klingon wedding" kind 😛 My Trek obsession is fairly deep but not to the point where I argue minuscule points on where buttons that do whatever are located on a console.
It seems Hollywood can't do anything but "re-boot" franchises these days, or "re-imagine" classic movies ("The Day the Earth Stood Still" starring Keanu Reeves? *gag*)
Captain Pike is in the film, though I don't know in what capacity or to what extent. I don't want to blow all the stuff I've heard out in the open but if anyone is interested I'll be more then glad to totally geek out via PM 😀 A lot of the "creative licensing" has rubbed me the wrong way. I wouldn't mind a couple of minor changes myself, but the crap I read seems to twist one of the major characters backgrounds in a very bad way. I'm hoping most of what I read turns out to be a very early draft that was changed.
January 18, 2008 at 9:52 am #65937TC2ParticipantI believe Pike may be the lead instead of Kirk for this one, at least that's what the current articles I've read have stated.
January 18, 2008 at 10:35 am #65938demented20ParticipantFor some reason this is starding to sound like a sci-fi version of Sum of All Fears. It was a good book by Tom Clancy that was twisted and turned into a bad movie staring Ben Affleck. I hope this doesn't turn out like that. If it is then I think they'll turn off all the current Trek fans trying to bring in new Trek fans.
January 18, 2008 at 11:35 am #65939FonkParticipantI'm still reeling from the casting of Simon Pegg to play Scotty, and it's been three or four months now. 😮
January 18, 2008 at 5:05 pm #65940AlexGKeymasterInteresting, heard about some of this elsewhere. 8)
Of course it won't be the first use of a Constitution Class ship since the original series, in Star Trek: Enterprise they had the recovered Defiant (and the 60's period sets) as part of the two-part storyline involving the Mirror Universe and its Terran Empire.
